Myspace BackgroundsA small time band with big time aspirations to party hard and have fun, that's what we are all about. If you don't leave our gigs feeling like you had a great time then we will drag you to the after party and show you how much fun we like to have! Hailing from a small NH border town in northern MA these four unique individuals are the ingredients to an eclectic mix of songs to keep the party going well into the night. It all started way back in 04' after kickin' around the Boston area original scene for a few years Mark (guitar &vocals) decided he wanted to try something a bit different than what he had been doing and wanted to play some of the music that he enjoyed listening to, so he set out to find a band who wanted to have more fun and not have to work so hard at trying to be a "serious" band so he answered an ad for a cover band looking for a singer and that pretty much planted the seed for Cry Uncle. The ad was placed by Susan (drums/back-ups) a spunky little firecracker originally from NY who had a flare for cool hats & some wild pairs of Chuck Taylors who can also kick a beat as well as any dude. Mark fell right into place with the band which at that time had no name, no gigs and about 12 songs that no one could dance to. That all changed in time. Soon after things got going Mark realized that meeting Susan was actually a package deal not only does Susan play drums, sing, play keyboards & sax she also has someone very important in her life who is behind her supporting her every step of the way in her musical journey that person is Darlene who is at every practice, band meeting & outing. Everywhere Susan is you could bet Darlene will be there too. It was shortly thereafter Darlene started messing with the lights then the sound and before they knew it Darlene became that one person that every band looks for, light person/sound person/roadie/recording engineer/groupie/number one fan you name it she does it and she became a very important part of the band the silent 5th member who they could not do without. After playing a couple of parties their lead player split and the band was left as a three piece and that is the way they stayed for the better part of a year. It took some time but after a few more parties and lots of practicing the band realized that they missed the sound of a second guitar player so they put another ad out there and in no time at all they found a new smokin lead guitar player. Now everything was back on track running on a full tank. They soon added new songs, changed the feel of the band, worked real hard, played more parties, started building a following then their bass player found love, moved away and left the band high and dry with a gig scheduled only a month away. It was back to square one. They tried the acoustic thing for alittle while but it just wasn't the up beat sound and energy that they had captured before, so out went another ad. Bass players seem to be the hardest musicians to find and just when all hope seemed to be lost on a dark and stormy night the phone rang and on the other end was Paul the man who answered their prayers. One audition was all it took and there was a vibe that couldn't be denied. This man brought an energy that wasn't present before, he also brought with him chops, experience and a new personality to the band not to mention a name that best fit the band's party til you can't party no more attitude "Cry Uncle". Paul comes from the jam band type of scene and was no stranger to playing around Cambridge & Boston, it was a nice contrast to Mark's metal/punk-alternative background and Susan's straight ahead rock n roll drumming. They were complete again with a whole new feel better than they ever were before, and it wasn't long before thay started playing more parties and booking real gigs playing in places like Bill Ashes, Uncle Eddie's & The Backstage Grille and did I mention more parties. People started taking an interest the more they played and then more people started showing up it went from ten friends to thirty to fifty and before they knew it the bars were packed and everybody was dancing. Things got wild in a girls gone wild sort of way and most importantly everyone was having a good time. They only had one problem, no matter when they played it would either snow blizzard like or rain like there was a hurricane outside you could always tell when Cry Uncle was playing because the gray clouds would roll in and after the night was over they seemed to disappear but their friends and fans did not, a dedicated bunch who Cry Uncle love very much and owe a great deal of graditude to. Everything was going great or so it seemed. Unfortunatly there was some drama within the band and they lost their smokin lead guitar player everyone was down, it almost ended everything they worked for in the past couple of years and of course their next gig was two weeks away. Now what? That's right they put out another ad, but this time they had one week to find someone and one week to teach him fourty songs. It was looking real scary but the show must go on even if it ment going back to the three piece thing. Needless to say that didn't happen and in one week they got twelve responses and four auditions from four great players. There was one man who stood above the rest and not just in playing, there was some sort of connection that happened much in the same way when they had auditioned Paul and that man was Ken aka Tanz, this guy has a great outlook on life and fit right in with the band and wouldn't you know he played the gig that was only a week away and he kicked ass too! Ken brought to the band a new dynamic that the other three hadn't experienced in a long time and he completed the sound by adding a classic rock personality to an already diverse band. Everything was in place now and the band kept plugging away at playing more gigs, learning more songs, and partying harder than ever. Throughout the next year Cry Uncle continued to book gigs monthly at Uncle Eddies where they became one of the venue's best live acts Eddie's even hosted Cry Uncle's 3rd annual Halloween bash which was a huge sucess once again they also have a monthly spot at the Backstage in Tewksbury where they continue to draw a modest crowd, get the waitresses dancing on the bar and have a chance to perform to an under 21 crowd until 10:00 PM when the kitchen closes. They also added some new venues, the PPC in Chelsea and the Crescent Yacht Club in Haverhill where you can see their show frequently. This year proved to be successful for the band steady gigs are a reality, new friends were being made all the time and it was only getting better. All except for Paul who had now been a member of the band for a year and decided that his heart just wasn't into the music he was playing, so he broke it to the rest of the band that he had a great ride and he liked everyone but wanted to get back to more of a jam band/folk type project but would stay around until a replacement was found and that is just an example of the type of person that Paul is. The rest of the band thanked him for his honesty, said their goodbyes and searched for a new bass player. It didn't take too long this time they had five people interested, all great players in their own right and each offering something different to the band. But once again there was one guy that stood above the rest, he was everything they were looking for in a bass player and more! That guy is Gene and altough he doesn't have an extra long tounge or breath fire he does play a very tight groove right in the pocket that will be sure to get your ass on the dance floor. Everyone hit it off right away and Gene was ready to go in no time at all and joined the band for his debut at the 3rd annual Halloween bash. Cry Uncle are still going strong, constantly growing and working on their plans for the future......They are booked throughout the winter, they always have new things to show and friends to meet so be sure to check em out you will not be disappointed.....
