From Oakland to Iceland: A Hip-Hop Homecoming is a documentary in post-production about Iceland native DJ PLATURN, raised in California and his homecoming tour playing in Iceland where he has lived since the age of 7. The film explores his 3 week tour DJing for his native Icelanders, where he exhibits his talents as a scratch/trick DJ, among other things. DJ PLATURN resides in Oakland, California.
DJ PLATURN is also part of the famed OAKLAND FADERS crew from Oakland, California which won Toyota’s "Scion Mixtape Competition" in 2004. They took 1st place out of 600 other contestants from all over the United States and their mix was distributed via 500,000 units throughout the world.

The film includes footage of DJ PLATURN in Oakland, coming home to Iceland, traveling into the awe-inspiring countryside, reconnecting with his family, playing various gigs and shows in Reykjavik and also, interviews and excerpts with DJs, MCs, B-Boys and promoters in the local Icelandic Hip-Hop scene.
The film explores the bi-cultural issues involved in DJ PLATURN’s life as an Icelander raised in America and in his DJing, music and career.
The film is in English and will be premiered in the spring of 2008.
The documentary is written, directed and produced by Ragga M. Thordarson.
The Icelandic production company SPARK co-produced the film.
