KLM AUDIO (Recording Studio)

About Me

KLM Audio is located in Lansing, Michigan. Constructed during the spring of 1999, the studio has been serving the central Michigan music community ever since.
I am owner/engineer Keith Kurtiss McIntosh, and I am originally from Buchanan, Michigan. I have been writing and performing music for thirty plus years. After more than a decade of road work, my wife Anne and I relocated to Lansing in 1987. My keyboard work has been featured in such local acts as FULL HOUSE, BOY'S NITE OUT, GRINNIN' BARRETT, and VIVA!, a Santana tribute band. Starting with my days in FULL HOUSE, I also spent seventeen years working in music retail. I am currently working with guitartist/singer Michael Angelo of Battle Creek on a duet and songwriting project.
While working for the local lighting company ON STAGE VISUALS, I developed an interest in recording and music production. I began to study, putting myself through college level acoustics and recording courses. I 'hit the road', doing mobile recording sessions at client's homes. I have constantly refined and upgraded my gear while continuing to gather knowledge. In 1999, when Anne and I purchased our first home, I immediately set about the task of building a recording facility.
There has been constant change, experimentation, and revision to KLM Audio throughout it's near eight year exsistence. Most recently, a vocal booth has been added, along with a complete ground up remodeling of the studio's control room. A new mix console and hard disc multitrack system have been installed. Higher end microphones have been brought into the collection. Changes to the acoustic treatments in the live room, along with the construction of a 'floating' drum riser, have also been been completed. The installation of solid birch sound doors has finalized the remodeling project.
I'll readily admits KLM is not the most technologically advanced studio in Lansing, but I am a firm believer in "It's not what you've got, it's what you do with it". In addition to countless "demos", more than thirty full length CD's by soloists, duets, and bands have been produced at KLM Audio, and a number of those recordings have resulted in signings with record labels. The rates at KLM are easily affordable to any and all musicians and bands looking to record without having to break the bank!
REMEMBER, IN THE END THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS HOW YOUR CD SOUNDS!
Thanks for checking things out, rock on, and GO BEARS!

KLM is a 'hydrid' studio, utilizing an analog mixing console with 24 bit hard disk digital multitracking. Add to that equation three acoustically tuned rooms, a solid microphone collection, and acoustic isolation for the drum kit, and you have a great bang for the buck studio!
Rock, Punk, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Blues, KLM has recorded it. I've even had a couple of bands utilize harp (the big one with all the strings). This is a studio for musicians, especially ones on a budget!
I only charge $15.00 per hour. Why? Because there are bands and musicians out there that want to record their music, but can't afford the $50-$100 plus per hour rates of other studios.
Listen to a demo from any studio in the area. Compare it to a recording done at KLM. Then ask yourself if you heard a $25, $30, $40 per hour difference. If the answer is yes, go to the other studio! If the answer is no.........
Like I said, in the end all that really matters is how your CD SOUNDS.
Influences: Every musician I come in contact with influences me. There are a lot of interesting artists and bands out there!
Sounds Like: It should cost more to record here than it does!
Record Label: Independant
Type of Label: Indie
