Columbia Fields was formed in June of 2002 when Guitarist/Lead Vocalist Grayson Minney met up with Pianist/Keyboardist Eric Heath. The combination of acoustic folk guitar and classical/pop piano complimented each other perfectly and created a local buzz throughout their neighboring hometowns. Drummer Chris Bowes was added in September of 2005, and bassist Jon Coates joined in July 2006.
The music that evolved from this quartet was unique considering the diverse musical influences from each individual band member. The band released their first full-length album "When the Night Falls..." in June of 2007. The band has also released a live DVD and EP of their September 2007 performance at the Capitol Theater in Willimantic, CT.
Columbia Fields has performed at some of the top-tier venues in the northeast area including the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den (CT), Hard Rock Cafe at Foxwoods Casino (CT), Toads Place (CT), The Webster Theater (CT), The Cutting Room (NYC), The Blender Theater at Gramercy (NYC) and Church (Boston). The band has also shared the stage with national acts such as PETE FRANCIS of DISPATCH, HINDER, KEITH KANE of VERTICAL HORIZON, EDWIN MCCAIN, RYAN MONTBLEAU, NINE DAYS, PRAS FROM THE FUGEES, THE BACKSTREET BOYS, THE SCRIPT, and THE FRAY.
The band's shows are energetic and emotionally driven, which led to the band being described as an "indie rock ass-kicking machine" by the Hartford Advocate. In 2007 the group won the Reader's Choice Award in the Hartford Advocate's Grand Band Slam, and in 2008 Columbia Fields won the award for best Indie/Emo band in Hartford, CT.
