Hylophagia was formed in 1994 under the name “Asphyxiation.†Originally intended to be a Cannibal Corpse influenced band, the band recorded the "Asphyxiation" demo, which was distributed in small quantities. The "Asphyxiation" demo was a 2 man project by J.W. and M.A., which featured both of them sharing vocal and guitar duties. The band quickly changed their name after recording the Asphyxiation demo after hearing about the NY band with the same name.
Soon thereafter, Hylophagia replaced the old name, and J.W. wrote more Carcass influenced songs which were clocked at roughly a minute long. The “Glass Remains†demo was recorded on a 4-track to maximize brutality with a Carcass - Reek of Putrefaction and Mortician – Mortal Massacre influence in mind.
The band disbanded after parting ways to pursue different interests in 1997, but now in 2009, J.W. has EXHUMED the band and has started working on material again! M.A. has been working on ideas, sharing them with J.W. for the next, unnamed release!
