..Many of you have wondered about the formation of Rillian and the Doxie Chicks. A long tale it is, but listen please to this, an extremely shortened version of the whole intricate story.
Mcaleenan OMalley was one of twins born to a Cuna native and a Welsh yeoman in 1689 aboard the gaff rigged schooner, The Mari. Their mother died soon after, the father was hung for piracy in England, three years later. The new Captain of The Mari, Dubhdarra OMalley of the famous OMalley clan of Connaught adopted the twin girls at the time. But at the tender age of three months she was separated from her twin. McAleenan grew up in West Port. She accompanied her father willingly to sea at the tender age of eight. Aye, shes loved it ever since. Somewhere in that time she was introduced to playing the fiddle.
The complete history of Ruby Cruzado is cloudy at best, and sordid at worst. This is possibly because of head trauma, from a stray bullet, but more likely due to the frequent inebriated blackouts, which she also claimed as justification for her many acts of thievery and slayings of sailors. She at long last discovered herself to be prodigal sister to McAleenan, now the captain of the Mari. The two sisters began to play tunes together, each having discovered their inborn musical abilities. They made a lovely house band at the Salmagundi Pub in Port Ramsgate.
Rillian Rauchbach entered this world in an unhappy state of affairs. Both of his parents, living the dangerous lives of street thieves, were dead by the time he was seven, and he was subsequently sent to live with his uncle, Julyan Ravensdale. He was very cruel to the boy, but did pay for his proper education. Rillian hated all the subjects except for music, which he took to very quickly. At the age of twelve, Rillian returned from his classes, and slit his uncles throat with a carving knife, and left his dead uncles home, never to return. After a few months roaming Londons streets, stealing money and food, he was able to get a job as cabin boy aboard a merchant ship. The ship was not long at sea when it was captured by Captain Cobham of Dorsetshire, and his pirate crew. The pirates would have killed the boy, as they did the rest of the crew, if Rillian had not immediately burst into song. But his sweet voice captured the attention of the whole crew, including the captain, who made him his new cabin boy and shanty-man.
Sally Rhodes, illegitimate daughter of Squire Samuel Rhodes and his Chambermaid, Poppy Scarlett, was born somewhere on the outskirts of London. At the tender age of fifteen, Sally left behind her dubious life and quickly discovered she could make quite a tidy living by dipping her dainty hand into the pockets and purses of the many male suitors with whom she came in contact. After nearly being caught, she took refuge in the hold of a moored cargo ship, where she remained hidden among the cabbages and cargo. It was not long thereafter that Sallys place of refuge was discovered by Rillian, the Cabin Boy, who aided Sally by disguising her as a young lad, and thrust a drum into her hands. The two played to entertain the crew.
Things continued this way, until 1722, when Rillian could no longer stand the ever increasing jealousy of the other pirates, and Sally could no longer stand the wrapping of her bosom. They jumped ship while at port, now in the English colonies of America. Their musical skills having so developed, they were able to survive as street musicians, trading songs for meals and a place to rest.
After two years of this they happened to meet McAleenan OMalley and Ruby Cruzado at the Salmagundi Pub in Port Ramsgate. Although they first quarreled over whose turn it was to play a tune, the 4 of them were forced to band together to escape the now raging brawl they had started. Walking away, nursing their cuts and bruises, they all agreed that they should work together, being very fond of each others musical talents.
So the four friends set off into the streets upon their first adventure.
