About Me

If you really want to know what's on my mind check out my blog at http://originofmorons.blogspot.com
But if you are too lazy, let's get started...
I am left handed. Of my nuclear family (mom, dad, and 2 brothers), I am the only lefty. That has always made me feel special. I am also the only one of the boys who doesn't have blue eyes. (My mom and I have green eyes. Mom's are more hazel than mine.) I'm also the only one with a name that doesn't end in, or can't be "nicknamed" into ending with, an "ee" sound made with the letter "y." I'm also the only gay one. I love my family and am close with them, but recognize these as things that will always be a little isolating. Some might also say I am prone to exageration.
I love politics, but am more interested in elections and popular attitudes than policy making. I guess its because after six years in the non-profit sector, I've seen little policy really have a positive influence on American lives.
I will one day end up living in a small town or suburban community like the ones I grew up in. I'm not ashamed of wanting that. First, I would like to live a couple of years without a car. This means, I'll probably have to hit another big city, no doubt one better planned than my beloved Los Angeles. I love Los Angeles but I would never raise children here.
I'm Catholic. More of a Universalist, but I still go to Mass and find peace in the liturgy. I find little peace in the Church itself. I know its a huge disappointment to God because it is to me. But I've never been hurt by the Church. Maybe that's why I still go. I don't judge those who don't go to Church or Temple, or those who don't believe in a god/gods. I only judge those who don't spend some time thinking about it because they are to distracted by Grey's Anatomy or American Idol.
I really am incredibly goofy, a fantastically happy drunk, and seeking out the most incredible adventures in life. I'm not always so heavy. Just when you first meet me.

My Interests

politics (pragmatic liberal), scuba diving, the beach, free parking, sushi, reading (non-fiction current affairs to thrillers), hating Bush (almost all kinds!), skating through Skid Row, drinking, dancing, cuddling by the fire, staring out my windows, driving through rare and yucky parts of town, libraries, museums, brothels

I'd like to meet:

Fun folks of any type for whatever suits them. It's not about me. I'm a giver. Ask anyone who knows me. They'll tell you I'm lying through my teeth!

Most of my friends are that special mix of insanity, alcoholism, intellectual capacity, and compulsive dancing that makes a trip to the grocery store just a little awkward. You should fit in there somewhere. Join the chorus line.

More importantly, whom'd I prefer not to meet:

Skeezy web cam chicks who can't come up with a MySpace bot that recognizes the words "gay" and "male".

Vapid psuedo-intellectuals who saw the most recent Michael Moore flick and now think they are Noam Chomsky.

More f-ing Republicans. It's bad enough my two best friends -- my brothers -- have drunk the Kool-Aid.

Music:

2 words: Scissor. Sisters.

Movies:

Stereotypical, but all time fave: Sunset Boulevard. More recently than when FDR was president: Kung Fu Hustle, The Departed, An Inconvenient Truth, Mean Girls, Stardust, Psycho Beach Party, The Contender, Juno, LOTR Series, and when I'm ready to geek out... all the great sci fi crap!

Television:

Four gigantically powerful letters, baby: L - O - S - T. And mix in a little WEEDS, the Closer, and Battlestar Galatica. CSI: Miami on a sick day, and Without a Trace on weekends. I'm a happy TV watcher and it doesn't make me dumb.

Did you know Maude is available on DVD? Bea Arthur will forever be the Grand Dame of Television!

Books:

Why don't I have any books listed? I read a crapload. Lots of political non-fiction and policy garbage. And a little too much John Grisham.

I try to keep informed, and I can divine the future from Grisham novels. It's pretty cool. Ask me about it.

Heroes:

Anwar Sadat, Dorothy Day, Jimmy Carter, Joan Allen, Paul Wellstone, Barbara Boxer, MLK, RFK, Whitman, Wilde, Fr. Mychal Judge, and more than anyone in the world, my Mom and Dad! (And sure, my 2 brothers, too, maybe I'll be as awesome as them one day.)

And of course, Condelicious!
