About Me

I can't remember a time that I wasn't listening to music. I started out knowing what I liked and sticking to it. When I grew up (sometime last week I think it was) I realised that there is so much more around than I realised. I have even started giving ear and brain space to styles, bands and artists who I previously eschewed. As a result I have discovered dance music and even some country stuff (there are still some I don't like but I wont say what and at least I tolerate it now :-) If you have time to listen to the tracks here, you will find them diverse in style and I like think interesting. I'll stand up and say before anyone else does that the production could do with improvement and the singing could be better, but I like to think I am improving in my singing, playing and recording techniques (I do most of this stuff without help and from a standing point of knowing the square root of fark all) so please be tolerant! All the songs were written by me but I'd like to thank my son Dave and the band 5 Amp blues for their talented input in the recordings. I'd also like to thank the fabulously talented Coz (though she won't admit it) for introducing me to Dance music and Glastonbury.

Influences: Early influences for me were the Prog Rock giants of the 70s. Later my tastes reverted somewhat and I started to appreciate all sorts of different genres, styles and artists. Eclectic is a trendy word, but it does now describe my view of the music world. Also I have been a fan of Judie Tzuke since I first heard Stay with me til dawn on Top of the pops in the late 70s. She is still writing and performing blinding music plus supporting an array of other aspiring musicians. What a gem .. keep it up Jude :-) Current favourites are the Kaiser Chiefs (did you know they have been around 10 years? Surprising eh?) and Velvet Revolver - you just can't beat a good Rock band.

Dangerous Minds

Another observation song, more serious than 'When were they', but then it's hard to be flippant about people killing each other! I'd like to thank my lad Dayve (of the legendary Denounce :-) for playi...

"...like a misty field washed by the sun"

My brain was certainly foggy, but from a late night rather than any romantic connection, but Judie Tzuke's lyric seems appropriate all the same. It was a lovely view this morning from my office....

CERN and stuff - ramble ramble

Seems to me that man's quest for the origin of being is getting a bit out of hand. On the scientific side we have built a massive Partical Accelerator in France/Switzerland at a cost of £5bn ov...

A random Happy New Year

This is a random blog at the start of the year. I intend writing a whole lot more this year and doing this at odd times seems to me to be a good way of exercising the creative part of me which does it...

As I was driving

It wasn't a particularly long journey, from Broadstairs to Gravesend, but it's one of those which I have done so many times that it's easy for the mind to wander and the body to take over automatic pi...
