Yankee Zydeco Company

About Me

The Yankee Zydeco Company comes to you from all over this beautiful country. We live from the Mountains of Nevada to the Mountains of New York. To put it simply, we're just six good time folks that love to play that good ole' country-fried Creole Zydeco music! Our traditional-style music; served up with grooves as thick and spicy as Grandma's gumbo, is sure to keep the party jumpin'! So c'mon and check us out sometime, just don't forget to bring your dancin' shoes!

Influences: Beau Jocque, Leroy Thomas, Boozoo Chavis, Preston Frank, Keith Frank, Buckwheat Zydeco, Creole Connection, Rosie Ledet, Creole Cowboys...
Sounds Like: YANKEE ZYDECO COMPANY brings the same traditional sounds of Louisiana to a stage near you. Our mission is to strive for that heartbeat, that backbone of Zydeco music. I try my hardest to put out the music that I fell in love with, listening to Leroy Thomas, Buckwheat, and Preston Frank live. Learning the two-step and demanding that our sound provides that same danceable motion. Thank you to all of those that came before; we will not forget what you brought to the table.

Yankee Zydeco Company has performed with acts such as Donna the Buffalo, Avett Brothers, Jeffery Broussard & The Creole Cowboys, Jenn Wertz and Jim Donovan from Rusted Root, Keith Secola & Wild Band of Indians, Sim Redmond Band, Preston Frank, and many more.

Zydeco Music is a unique form of musical expression that originated in rural southwest Louisiana. Locally known as "la la" music, Zydeco music was formed and forged in a time best forgotten--a time when African-Americans had to struggle in the fields from sunup to sundown as sharecroppers so that their children might reap a better life.

It was these backbreaking hard times that help to define one of the most vibrant and successful musical traditions in the world. The phrase "Zydeco sont pas sale'" means "The snapbeans are not Salty" in Creole French, and the music draws upon French, Creole, West African, Cajun, Caribbean, and R & B musical traditions. Zydeco Music is characterized by the use of the accordion, spoons, scrubboard, fiddle and triangle.
