This is a poem my Dad, Myron Lysenko wrote about me/for me when i was 13

Towards the end of her twelfth year
she chews on a piece of fatty meat
& decides to become vegetarian
even though she doesn't like vegetables.
"i love animals" she says
"& I don't want to eat rotting flesh any more."
At the age of thirteen
she can't understand why refugees are locked away.
she takes her father to rallies:
Free the Refugees/No War for Oil.
she buys protest badges & political t-shirts
& becomes interested in socialism
"because we should all help each other, right dad?"
She makes friends with a bass player
& she attends his gig at a concert
where she shares her jacket with friends
as they stand in cold rain for eight hours.
when his band comes on she sings along to the songs
& at the end of the gig her friends are envious
when the bass player hugs & talks to her.
She says she loves a boy at school
but he would never love her
because he could get any girl in the world.
she places her finger on her lower lip
& says "it tingles."
she hopes she doesn't get a coldsore
from that other boy who took her to the Melbourne Show
then gave her her first kiss on the train home.
She surprises her parents
when she says "i want to attend a better school
coz the boys always muck around
& i do most of my homework in class."
she's afraid her marks won't
allow her to study as a research scientist
& discover the cure for cancer,
which has become her new ambition
since she spent a whole year watching
her favourite aunt die.
