Chevi Eye Story 2000 - 2007

Chevi Eye began it’s journey in the summer of 2000, with Carri on guitars, Antonio doing the vocals, Taisto on the drums, Timo playing bass and Jukka Miettinen as keyboard player. Autumn 2000 the band recorded their first demo, which was released under the title “With Love”. The song “Die For My Sins” was their first hit and it really took off: suddenly Chevi Eye started to get attention from all over the media. The big stages bacame familiar to Chevi Eye, who now got to play several big shows.
At this point the band thought it would be wise to start shooting a video for the song “Die For My Sins” and recording a Maxi Single. In early 2001 they were done, and the Ep “Die for My Sins” and the video for the hit “Die For My Sins” reached daylight. Chevi Eye got a unique opportunity to perform in front of a large audience in the MTV3 TV-show “Jyrki”, where the new video was also shown for the first time. After this, all the other large medias wanted to have Chevi Eye as their guests as well. Chevi Eye went on the road touring until the autumn of 2001, after which another video from the EP waqs shot: “I Can’t Live Without You”. It premiered in early 2002 again in the popular MTV3 show “Jyrki”. After this it was time to start making and recording new material.

The new material was ready autumn 2002: the EP "Big Crush" was released. Before this, keyboard player Jukka parted from the band and was replaced by a multitrack-player. Thus they needed a new man behind the mixer to control all this chaos. They were lucky to meet Timo Kuronen on a Chevi Eye and Maija Vilkkumaa gig at Tulenliekki. He turned out to be a real magician already during the soundcheck and after this Chevi Eye and "Setä" Kuronen have been inseparable. Summer 2003 the band shot a music video for the song "The New Beginning" in Helsinki with the help of a german filming crew.

Autumn 2003 Chevi Eye got a new member: Iiro Saarinen, guitarhero number two, brought more depth to the guitarwalls and widened the musical possibilities with another guitar and an additional background vocal. The band retreated to a dark basement to train their new member and they didn’t come out until he knew how to play the songs backwards too. Iiro debuted in Kuopio, from where they toured on all over Finland all the way until the festival season next summer. The name Chevi Eye was no longer a stranger to many and a certain receptionist in Mikkeli may still wake up in the middle of the night all covered in sweat from a nightmare in which Adidas-stripes made of toiletpaper haunt her. On the side of touring the band had also composed a bunch of new high-quality material which they yearned to get on tape. Before they hit the studio the compositions were fine-tuned and demos were made of the new songs. In 2004 the single ”It Finally Starts To Bend” was released, a song with a chorus that stuck to you better than glue. A music video for the song was also shot. This happened during the coldest winter on top of a local hill where men in their cold leather jackets had to work for a long, long day. At least when the night came the pyrotechnics warmed them up a little. The full length album “Vicious Intent” was released in early 2005 and was followed up by a massive concert tour. On the big stages the band was at it’s best and it seemed as if nothing could stop them now.

During the summer 2005 an unexpected event stopped the band: lead vocalist Antonio and Chevi Eye both went their separate ways and the summer tour had to be cancelled. This didn’t bring the band down however, as they started their search for a replacement for Antonio. Soon the right man was found: after hearing the charismatic Pasi Mäenpää the band immediately knew they had found a new lead vocalist. Once again the band locked themselves inside their training chamber where the vocal melodies and harmonies were installed to the new vocalist’s spine with a few months of intensive training. In addition, the band had composed a handful of new tunes, which they took off to record. Bass player Timo was in charge as the band traveled to a farm in the middle of nowhere to record. In spite of the 30 below zero temperature and the ghost of the murderer who used to live on the farm everything went well – except on the last day, when guitar player Carri had to be taken to the hospital because his throat was swelling and he couldn’t breathe anymore - he was almost about to die.

Yet another unexpected misfortune took place in summer 2006 when bass player Timo Hyvönen stated that he days with Chevi Eye were done. An adequate replacement was searched from every corner of Finland and in 2007 the right man was finally found. From a band called “The Evolution” bass player Ville Väisänen joined the Chevi Eye rhythm section and they could continue to take over the world. Released in summer 2007, the new single "Forever" is the first Chevi Eye release with the new line-up, and hopefully more Chevi Eye material will come out as soon as possible!
