JUNKSTYLE

About Me

Junkstyle was a combination of 2 old late 80's bands called Paradise and Overdrive more commonly known as Ugly Kid Joe. Basically, Erik Phillips left Ugly Kid Joe in early 1991 and had wanted to join Paradise for many years. Fortunantely, the bass player in Paradise, Cordell Crockett (who also played in my brothers band Abercrombie) was available and joined immediately replacing Phil Hilgartner. I, Erik Philips, then replaced Cordell on bass coming from playing guitar in Ugly Kid Joe (I figured 4 strings were less than 6 and it would less interfere with my drinking and drug use). We set out to find a new singer for our band. I believe that we ran an ad and auditioned many "singers." After much woodshed writing and jamming, we discovered Texas transplant, Dante Marchi, straight outta Breanan TX. By 1992, we were off and running with the following line up:Dante Marchi - Lyrics, Lead Vocals and a mean tambourine (See his current band with Liz Constatine, DIZZY X). Matt Shumway - Guitars, backing vocals, music riff master, total shredder and my best friend to this day Erik Phillips - Bass, 4, 5, 12 string & fretless with occasional keyboard if not too drunk. Matt & I would bring in music ideas and we would work them out in the studio. Mike March - Drums, backing vocals, percussion, girl magnet, almost always in bare feet.

Eric Phillips - 4,5, & 12 string bass as well as fretless. Also bass riff master, Gear collector & song writer (see uglykideric@myspace for solo work) and occasional keyboard player if not too drunk. Mike March - Drums, backing vocals, percussion, chick magnet and total slob. Rick Jenkins - Roadie, Guitar, Bass & Drum Tech. Band's best friend.
Influences: Occasionally known as Naked Earth for our very loud acoustic gigs at the Amazon bar and grill in Santa Monica, we came from a variety of backgrounds that one fan basically summed up with the phase, "STEVIE RAY SOUNDGARDEN." JUNKSTYLE was a name that Dante, our lead singer, came up with knowing that it would make a great album cover.
Sounds Like: STEVIE RAY SOUNDGARDEN and ourselves, of course.
