regarding your question(s): the most simple advice I can give is to play what you would like to hear. If this is beyond your technical abilities, then you should feel comfortable to play something that is more simple and yet of the same melodic or harmonic intent. Rhythm is key ... the use of motivic development will allow you to tell your story, The best music is not complicated: it comes from the heart.
