I am currently residing in Pasadena, in the spare bedroom of my mom's charming 1912 craftsman, with too much furniture, too many books, and far too much fabric. I am working as a developmental therapist, playing with small autistic children, but I'm reducing my hours and will be done in the end of June or beginning of July. I'm moving to Massachusetts at the end of August, because I've been accepted to transfer to Hampshire College. I expect I'll be there for three years (it's a tricky program to transfer into), and then can look forward to another two or three years getting my master's in public history so I can work at a museum or park or...somewhere. The graduate degree will give me options for the field I love, and we'll see what happens from then on.
In the meantime, I'm trying to reduce the amount of stuff I have, and find clever ways of making money over the summer. I'm also trying to have fun and be social. Important stuff, you know. I've been increasing my creative endeavors and have been writing, sewing, and crafting more of late. If anyone ever wants to join me, you are more than welcome, and I will probably give you stuff whilst you're here.
Who am I, really? I am, in a word, intense. I feel strongly about things, and about people. I am introspective and I have a tendency to overthink things. I talk a lot, and I'm prone to being very excited about odd things. I like old stuff and I get caught up in projects. I don't like to be in charge of things but I will take charge if need be. Impatiently. I dislike wasted time and I'm always trying to do too much. I am old-fashioned, but I'm ferociously liberal and an individualist. People suffering an excess of religion make me uncomfortable and defensive: bad experiences. I love poetry but am terrible at memorizing it. I frequently look like I wandered out of the 1950s. Favorites: red, pearls, white gold, tulips, caramel, raspberries, vanilla ice cream, strong tea, riesling, spring, mountains, cats AND dogs. I have a boundless capacity for love.
To clear up any confusion: My penchant for nicknames keeps everyone on their feet – my birth certificate says Amanda, I’ve gone by Amie for ages, there was a brief stint of Andy in high school, and somehow or other Ava caught on like wildfire a couple years ago. It’s much more interesting than the alternatives, so I’ve run with it, and at this point, prefer it to the others, as much for disambiguation as anything else.
