About Me
David “Dangerous Davey E†Edwards & Steve “Stickz†Heyliger aka "MONSTABOY" From Nottingham The duo first met after David set up and ran a pirate radio station in 1992 called 'Rave 101.7 FM' on which Stickz was given a show of his own. David ran a few successful radio stations, very successful club nights & Nottinghams leading record shop 'Groove City' alongside his partner at that time, who happens to be the current manager of the group H2O.In 1997 David was resident Dj at a popular Nottingham nightclub called “Essenceâ€, at the time it was the early days of the UK Garage sound. As the scene grew, Dangerous & Stickz teamed up and began to produce tracks, They made various white labels and tracks for a record label called 'Earache Records' who released 2 EP's F.U.J volumes 1 and 2. One of which was played on the late great John Peel show on Radio 1.In 1999 they became 'Monsta Boy'. A local R&B singer by the name of Denzie brought along a tape of a song idea, asking if 'Monstaboy' would be interested in working with him on it, the duo remixed the track giving it a new 2-Step UK garage flava and arranged and re-wrote parts of the song. The track was picked up by radio 1's "Dreem teem" where it stayed as the 40 yarder for 3 weeks, it continued to be played regularly in the clubs up and down the country, until it eventually charted at number 25. It did an amazing 30,000 units in the first week and has sold over 95,000 units to date approx. It appeared on most of the garage compilations, Twice as Nice, Pure Garage, Garage anthems, Silk Cuts (New Zeland), Pure Silk to name but a few. It was nominated for the UKG awards and the track even got a mention on shows such as Hollyoaks, Big brother and, it was played during half time in a champions league match on ITV (Big up Monty!). They even got a mention in the Sun's Bizzare page. Its still being played by top acts all over the country and abroad, and no doubt it will be heard year after year in places like Ayia Napa, Ibiza, Malia ect. The track has gone on to become a International garage anthem.Monstaboy are currently producing with a lot of home grown talent as well as artists from all over the country and abroad, concentrating on the Funky House, Garage and Bassline House. With a formidable team of young talented artists, we have embarked on a new project named T.I.F (This Is Funky) We predict things are about to take off once again as we head towards 2010 and beyond!
