About Me

An under-the-table deal with his MUM to keep his grades up at University saw a pair of Technics 1200’s fly his way as his mum used a lil materialistic motivation or some might argue; indirect black mail to keep his grades up. A credit average was kept but ironically disappointing for his mum, he invested more time flicking through crates of vinyl than textbooks in the library.
Growing up in the era of Dinky, Wild FM, Skitz Mix and Brizzi’s naturally his first choice was to start mucking around with Hi-NRG. However this passion was overshadowed in a few years, after first hearing “The Drill” in early 2005. A fan of house, but unimpressed with its absence of that low driving thump, Perks decided this style could be right up his ally and decided to make the change.
Landing a series of runner up finishes in various dj comps in both Wollongong and Sydney; confidence began to build. Soon after, a promoter in the audience impressed with his style took a chance, threw him in the deep end and teed him up with a peak time set on a night advertised “Local All-stars.”
Fate or fluke, the set was tight and from then venues as UN Sydney/DCM's, King's-Beverly Hills, The Blacket Hotel on George St, Punchies, Glasshouse, The Syndicate, Brewery, Beach Bar, Illawarra Hotel, UniBar, Castros/Rustys, Bounce@Grand Hotel and Star 5 began to follow. Over this time his had the privilege of supporting stacks of Aussie and International stars, the most memorable being huge house heavyweight Martijin Ven Helden.
The last 6 months he decided to throw club work on the back burner so he could spend more time and concentrate producing some mixes that have been circling through his musical mind. “Dirty Memories” his latest release, following his 2 earlier mixed cds, “Strictly Vinyl 1 and 2” has seen Perks disregard his loyalty to the 12inch L.P and give those smaller, shinny compact things are go. The outcome is a mix of tracks and sampling that constantly evolves and shifts direction keeping the audience guessing.
“I suppose it all began when Mum tried to blackmail me. I know it sounds like pretty twisted but hey it got me into djing and we all know it really doesn’t matter too much how it all begins…its how it finishes…..so stay tuned…hahaha. God Bless and Peace my Brothers and Sisters “ - Perks
