WELCOME TO TEAM IERO™!!
Before My Chemical Romance, Frank Iero had played in many other bands, including Pencey Prep, Hybrid, Sector 12, I Am A Graveyard, and Give Up The Ghost.
He went to Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington, New Jersey, and briefly attended Rutgers University on a scholarship. However, he dropped out of collage once he felt that My Chemical Romance was actually going somewhere.
Frank became a member of My Chemical Romance after his band Pencey Prep broke up. The band had decided they needed a second guitarist to fill the sound.
Shortly after joining My Chemical Romance, Frank got a scorpion tatooed as high as possible on his neck so that nobody else would employ him, because felt the band was something important that was going to last.
Frank is the rhythm guitarist for My Chemical Romance.
He is the youngest member of the band at 25 years old.
He is also the shortest member at 5'4".
Frank learned to play the guitar by imitating Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day.
He is a vegitarian.
His all-time favorite song is "Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay."
Iero has the most tattoos of the members of My Chemical Romance, including but not limited to the word "HALLOWEEN" on his knuckles, a Jack-o'-lantern and the words "Keep The Faith"" on his back, "NJ" on the inside of his lip, "search and destroy" on his back, an anchor on the lower part of his right bicep with an "N" and "J" on either side, a flame and the word "Hope" on the left side of his chest, and a scorpion on the right side of his neck.
Frank's mother was featured in the MCR song "Mama" and his father provided additional precussion for their song "Welcome To The Black Parade."
He has three dogs.
Pencey Prep
Pencey Prep was a band formed from the ex-members of local punk heroes Sector 12 (Riverside Riot Records) and Stick Figure Suicide (Umbilical/Reinforcement Records). The band consisted of: Frank Iero (Lead Vocals, Guitar), Shaun Simon (Keyboards), John "Hambone" McGuire (Bass, Vocals), Neil Sabatino (Guitar, Vocals), and Tim Hagevik (Drums). They were a rare mix of punk, emo and indie rock. The band's line up included 2 guitars, keyboards, bass, drums, and vocals and has been compared to the band The Anniversary. Pencey Prep officially released Heartbreak in Stereo on Eyeball Records in fall 2001 , and disbanded shortly after. Before bands like The Used and Thursday were mainstream successes, Pencey Prep was creating music that fused many styles of music together while keeping true to punk rock roots. Pencey Prep played shows with bands like Nada Surf, The Strokes, Thursday, New Found Glory, Brand New and many more. The band's only album, Heartbreak in Stereo was released in 2001. After the band broke up, it became difficult for new fans to find the CD. Eyeball Records re-released it in early 2007.
