Childhood artfully marry the pop sensibilities of The Beatles with the refined exuberance of The Clash, creating a sound that is both fresh and timeless. Having grown up together, this New York City quartet exhibits a cohesiveness rarely found in such a young group. With their melodies of polished grit, Childhood presents a modern vision of rock and roll, true to its early innocence.
The earliest roots of the band can be traced to high school, where founding members Jay Mort (bass) and Will de Zengotita (guitar) began writing and performing with friends. Guitarist Kaleb Seigle was added in early 2001 and they began playing shows throughout Upstate New York including a run as the house band at the Rhinecliff Hotel. Later that year, de Zengotita and Seigle settled into a Brooklyn apartment to focus on song writing and de Zengotita's cousin Olmo Tighe joined as drummer. At first rehearsing in a Lower East Side practice space, what was to become Childhood began developing their original sound. The four members of the band then moved to Woodstock, where they recorded a four song EP with acclaimed producers Michael Birnbaum and Chris Bittner at their nearby Applehead Studio. The Shade has since returned to New York City where they frequently perform.
