About Me

Acoustic Airwaves 2008

Acoustic Airwaves 2008 is about to land near you!
Well, AA 2008 turned out to be something very different from originally planned when the weather was so atrocious that it was impossible to fly. However, I didn't want to disappoint anybody, especially as at Fenland 50 tickets had already been sold ! So I came up with a cunning and brilliant plan, and re-christened the tour Acoustic ROADWAVES and drove to all the gigs! Lucy Dixon shared driving duties (and there was a lot of driving to be done) and for the first few days Sarah Scott joined me on the team...although the dismal rain made some of the locations..uh, shall we say limited in the audience capacity..everyone was incredibly generous and the total we raised for Teenage Cancer Trust was a little under £1,500...
Steve Cooper and all the team at Goodwood gave me a fabulous end of tour experience by donating some time in a Cirrus to "fly in" land, get out the plane and walk onto the stage
All in all it was a fabulous experience despite the change of transport!
Thanks To everyone for playing such a supportive and wonderful role in making this happen - Look out 2009 Acoustic Airwaves will be back bigger and better

Bad Weather Warning

It is important to state that in order to make this a safe and secure tour, I may be unable to appear at an event if bad weather makes flying impossible. My apologies in advance to anyone who may miss a show due to adverse conditions. I will try to make it up and re-schedule any performances that are cancelled. One of the reasons for making all the shows FREE entry is to allow for any unexpected problems without causing anyone any financial loss. I hope everyone understands.

Purpose
To raise money and awareness for the Teenage Cancer Trust in areas around the UK that are fairly close to proposed new wards being built. To spread the word of GA flying by doing something unusual that will raise the profile and hopefully inspire more people to try it. To put together an informal acoustic show that is entertaining and great fun for everyone.
Timeline

The Last two weekends of August and the first weekend of September. Starting the tour with a mini gig and press launch at Wycombe Air Centre (where I learnt to fly) on Friday 17th August at 11 am. Then packing up the gear, loading the aircraft and flying off for the first stop, Glorious Goodwood!

My Interests

Music:

Band Members:

I have been a singer/songwriter and performer for many years. I have recorded and toured with many bands around the world including Cutting Crew (our best known song was the massive world wide hit " I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight"). I have also been a very successful venue owner and concert promoter and over the years I have been proud to have played a part in discovering and developeing acts such as KT Tunstall, Lucie Silvas, The Feeling, James Morrison and Paolo Nutini amongst many more.

Since gaining my pilots license I have discovered a powerful new passion in my life, which is the joy of flying and the challenge of encouraging others to do the same

The Acoustic Airwaves Tour is something that combines my passions, both new and old, with my ability to put together shows and help people. The Teenage Cancer Trust is a cause that I feel very strongly about.

About the Tour

I shall be flying a Cessna 172 with a small PA system, acoustic guitar and electric keyboard and navigating my way to small airfields around the country where I shall unload the equipment and set it up to do an informal live performance.

This will take place beginning on Friday September 5th in the afternoon at Kemble Airfield where I will fly in and set up the PA system perform a set at 1pm and then fly on to Gloucester Staverton to do an evening show at 7pm. This intense tour will continue Sat 6th and finish Sunday 7th September at Goodwood airfield where I will have done 6 shows in less than 72 hours !

I will be having special guests at some of my shows, so each performance will be quite an event.

The shows will be free entry (just in case bad weather means we have to postpone, I don't want to disappoint people or have them worrying about tickets).

Now that all the airfields have agreed to a part of it I am very excited.

Cool Ideas

Obviously everything we do has an impact on the environment around us and so I have taken some time to calculate that this tour will create about 3-4 tonnes of CO2.

I shall be offsetting the Carbon Emissions by buying the equivalent "cool" tonnage from Global Cool to create a Carbon Neutral Tour. I am a member of this funky but very inspiring site and have made some simple pledges to make a personal difference, why not join me there and see what you can do as well?
