A bit of a late starter I properly got into drum n bass in 2002, when I moved up North to go to uni in Sheffield and began regularly attending local nights such as Drum n Bass Arena, The Tuesday Club, Coalition and NY Sushi. These experiences, combined with reaching as many London nights as I could when I returned home in the holidays, and events in other Northern cities, fuelled my passion for the music. In 2004, after 2 years of collecting vinyl, I bought my own pair of 1210s and never looked back! Once I got the hang of things I played out at various venues in Sheffield before returning home to South London in the summer of 2006.
In 2008 I was fortunate enough to be made resident for one of London's finest dnb promotions - Essence of Chi - which has given me the opportunity to play at their own nights, as well as larger events such as Moondance and Son of Dance and represent them on tour outside the capital. In August 2008 I joined the ranks of London's seminal Rude 88.2FM alongside DJ Ascension where you can catch us mixing live every Saturday from 2-4PM either on the FM dial or through the internet stream at http://38.96.148.13:7720/listen.pls
Mixing aside, I still can’t get enough of dnb, keeping up with all the new beats around by listening to a constant stream of studio mixes, live recordings and radio and attending nights in London and beyond on a weekly basis. In terms of tunes I love the deeper end of the dnb spectrum and right now I’m feeling output from Survival, Icicle, Break, Zero Tolerance, Sabre, Commix, Spectrasoul, Lynx, Alix Perez, Fierce, Switch, Breakage, Seba, Naibu, Nymfo & Proxima to name but a few and not forgetting Calibre and D-Bridge who have probably played the biggest part in influencing my selection to date.
As much as I’d love to make a living out of music I have to have a day job and work in the fashion industry as a buyer’s assistant during the week – clothes, shoes and accessories being the next best thing to dnb! I studied Architecture at uni for three years and still have a real interest in buildings and interiors. I’m a very creative person and love most forms of art, especially photography. I like other types of dance music too, especially dubstep, tech/prog/deep house, minimal techno and breaks.
