REFUGE IN THE THREE JEWELS:THE THREE PRECIOUS ONES. The Buddha - the enlightened one. The Dharma - the teachings of the buddha; the path to enlightenment. The Sangha - the teachers, guides and followers of Buddhism.
DAILY PRAYER OF REFUGE AND RESOLUTION TO REACH ENLIGHTENMENT Sangjey cho tang tsoji cho nam la chang chup bardu dani chapsu'nchi dagi gomday jipay sonam ji drola penchir sangjey drup para sho
In the Buddha, Dharma and the noblest Sangha, I take refuge until Enlightenment is reached. Through the virtue generated by this meditation and mantra recitation, may I achieve Buddhahood for the benefit of all beings.
In most spiritual traditions, is it customary to make offerings at a Buddhist shrine, or during prayers, etc.In the Buddhist tradition, these offerings can be literal, and/or visualized. The traditional 8 offerings are: 1.) ARGHAM (Water to drink) 2.) PADHYAM (Water to bathe) 3.) PUSHPE (Flowers) 4.) DUPHE (Incense) 5.) ALOKHE (Light) 6.) GENDHE (Perfume) 7.) NEVIDHYA (Celestial food) 8.) SHABTA (Music) Often these offerings are taught to be accompanied by a mudra. That is a hand gesture indicating and expressing the offering type. THE FIVE PRECEPTS. 1. Protect life and refrain from killing. 2. Respect others' property and refrain from taking what isn't given. 3. Speak the truth and refrain from lying. 4. Embrace health and refrain from intoxicants. 5. Respect others and refrain from sexual misconduct.
THE FOUR THOUGHTS THAT TURN THE MIND. 1. Precious human birth. 2. Impermanence. 3. Karmic cause and effect. 4. Shortcomings of Samsara.
THE FOUR LIMITLESS CONTEMPLATIONS. May all beings be happy and create the causes of happiness. May they all be free from suffering and from creating the causes of suffering. May they never be without that sacred happiness which has no suffering. May they attain universal, impartial compassion, beyond worldly bias towards friends or enemies.
