About Me

UPDATE: QUICK MIX - This is just a quick live mix I did, using songs recorded live in the studio rather than dance tracks processed through sequencers! A good challenge... BIO: I call myself an independent DJ and producer, which basically means I like to sit alone at a computer and mess about with samples until I come up with something I can play about on my decks with - that's what it's been like since I was a little boy and nothing's changed since! I do it for the love and I'm not interested in making it a career, but it's something I enjoy doing in my spare time and if others want to listen to what I come up with, then awesome - let's all get pissed and have a dance. I DJ at various clubs in London (details posted here), and if anybody's interested in knowing more then drop me a line. MAMA'S PEARL started off as just an instrumental, but then I tried putting an accapella over the top to see where it could go, and went for Michael Jackson's vocal track from the Jackson 5 song 'Mama's Pearl'...I sent it off to various labels to see what they thought, and heard back from Neil Claxton (Mint Royale's producer, who also founded the label Faith & Hope) who said he'd be interested in hearing a radio edit with re-recorded vocals, essentially turning it into a cover. Nathaniel Morrison - a very talented musical theatre performer who I knew from college - did the job and we duly sent it back. After a few emails back and forth with various tweaks and polishing done, it seemed Neil was interested in getting involved either as producer or as a label. Unfortunately, for some strange reason, I sent him the latest edit one day and never heard back from him again, despite my best efforts to get some kind of response out of him! So the song remains as it was sent in that last email. We intended to go back to it and finish it proper, so one day...JUDGE & JURY is based around a sample taken from an old soul record, with me singing the verses leading up to the looped 'let nobody tell you what to do...' chorus. It's a straightforward soul-house tune, quite funky at 1am pitched up on the decks in a room full of drunk party people (ie me and my housemates pissed on cider at New Year's Eve). LATIN NIGHT is just a crazy instrumental I knocked up by sticking together a load of drums and guitars (sometimes the best way). TAKE OFF YOUR CLOTHES came about after I nicked a sample from an old soulDecision recording (an old boy band...there's a running theme here, what with Bros as well). I also took the breakdown from Norman Cook's 'The Pimp' and used it here, too. Talent borrows, genius steals. SUPERSTAR is around ten years old and is probably one of the only tunes from back then that I still think holds its own today - see if you can spot the blatant Fatboy Slim sample... I HATE TO LOVE YOU is built around the chorus from an old Bros b-side (called 'I Love To Hate You', I think...) The minute I heard the sample I recorded it and sped and pitched it up, stuck some drums and a heavier bassline underneath to emphasise the groove, and structured the track accordingly...I keep meaning to upload some more tunes here and will get round to it soon, along with some recordings of my sets in London. CHOSEN FOOL is an instrumental I put together that sounded better with a stolen Julee Cruise acapella over the top, taken from the Hybrid song 'I Know'. Not much else to say, I just arranged the song around the acapella and came up with this.
