I am a 30 year old guy from nearby Amsterdam, Holland. I love pretty much everything rock n' roll: going to (rock)concerts and party afterwards with some good booze & pretty women lol :), meeting artists and and hear their experiences, collect and listen to (rock)music/DVDs, promoting rockmusic, travelling/roadtrippin', meeting new (rock)people/networking etc. Im happiest pretty much when busy with rockmusic in whatever form.
I would have loved being out on the stage myself but unfortunately I dont have that talent to play an instrument properly.
No, I just want to work in the musicbusiness that has always been my dream. In the past, from very early on, I tried several things (like pestering all recordcompanies I could think of for a job) to get in to that business, but it was just to risky at that point knowing you won't earn a thing at first and the very little chance of doing so in the nearby future. So I decided to get a degree in something before I could focus entirely on music. I have that degree now, in business economics and I am heading to become a project manager (which is pretty much just work for me but helped me a lot to develop my personal skills) and plan to use these skills in future when the chance in the musicbusiness would arrive.
I am doing anything related to music: go to and try to arrange gigs (in Holland, UK), festivals (for an extended giglist see my blog), promote awesome new rockbands like Wired Desire, Heavens Basement, Airbourne, The Answer & Headrush in Holland and abroad within recordcompanies, venues, bookingoffices and to other rockers, do some pluggin on the radio, helped out with shooting the Wired Desire video 'Damn Hard', did backing vocals (well tried lol :)) in Wired Desire's Glaswegian recordingstudio, visited radiostations, invited backstage several times and had the privilege and sometimes pure luck to meet loads of my rockheroes, attended showcases etc. I am on myspace almost every day, I write for forums and magazines, am starting soon to try and review CD/DVDs/gigs, talk to everyone involved in the musicbusiness and by doing this all building up a network to eventually come across the one person who sorta 'gives' me my big break: a job in the musicbusiness.
What I like to become is an A&R manager or concertpromoter in future, or get my own bookingoffice or label. There are so many good upcoming rockbands again, Im having a blast, and many of the recordcompanies dont see it enough!
Lately I have been thinking about tourmanaging alot too, that would be something I could use my broad knowledge of project management with. I JUST NEED BANDS TO GIVE ME A TERM OF PROBATION ON TOURMANAGING, coz how else would you get into that business? I am thinking like assisting the actual tourmanager, make notes and learn from that what it all takes. I can organize (I have loads of experience in that), I am bilingual (Dutch, English) etc. SO IF YOU ARE A BAND AND WANNA GIVE THIS DIEHARD ROCKER A CHANCE, GIMME A SHOUT! I could do promotion in return or something we can figure something out as rockers amongst each other, I got a few contacts too.
Anyone else interested to give me some advice or maybe even help me getting me a job in the music business, I would love to hear from you!
