Based in the Washington, DC area, Downfall is out to breathe fresh air back into a genre that has grown stale from too many indistinguishable, uninspired acts. Instead of merely imitating the latest trends for commercial appeal, Downfall creates the kind of metal they want to hear, while scrapping the idea of a traditional metal image altogether. They pool their collective influences to create their own sound and style, focusing more on the quality of their work, and the genuineness of their music. Downfall believes that the music should always speak for itself, and theirs truly speaks volumes.
Downfall consists of vocalist Alex "Cha" Osipowicz, guitarist Peter Lyerly, bassist Aaron "Snoose" Page, and drummer Steve "Vaans" Evans. Collectively, they've only been together as Downfall since December of 2005 after forming from the ashes of various Maryland local bands; however they have already made substantial progress in the industry. Being self-taught musicians, they possess a do-it-yourself work ethic that carries over to their music and its business model. Their first album, the EP "Luctor et Emergo", is now available and an as-yet-untitled full-length album is scheduled for completion by February 2008. In between writing material for their album and exhaustive self-promotion, the band can be found playing across the east coast nonstop.
While similarities have been found in bands like Mudvayne, Lamb of God, and Dying Fetus, Downfall has a very rhythmic yet intensely chaotic sound that is incapable of direct comparison. The band itself is a mixture of very different personalities with their own diverse tastes in music; a trait that is reflected in both their music and their image. What Downfall creates is inspired by a variety of genres. This appreciation and knowledge of multiple styles plays a big part in many aspects of their sound, which has been very well received by the metal, hardcore and mainstream audiences.
