Read lots of press releases for forgettable albums recently? Luckily for all of us, this mighty collection of tracks doesn’t fall into that category. “Heads In The Clouds†is the work of Belfast’s finest exports of quality underground electronic music the Jet Project, and this dirty dozen is a showcase of some of their finest moments for Silicone Soul's Darkroom Dubs label.
Neatly stitched together with brand new material that takes in all their influences from deep & dubby house music to weird off kilter electronics and peak time dancefloor bombs, ‘Heads In The Clouds’ is true to its name, creating a mind-altering package of distorted delights. Already picking up plays from the likes of Andrew Weatherall, Francois K, John Digweed, Laurent Garnier, Silicone Soul and Heidi.
Jet Project are Belfast duo Timmy Stewart & John McIver, two enthusiasts that have been present and involved in Belfast's ever burgeoning club scene from its acid house beginnings to its post-troubles renaissance, holding current residencies at Stiff Kitten and Shine. Friedrichshain boy Marc Poppcke has shown himself, over the last year, to be one of the brightest young producer talents to emerge out of Germany. His blend of soulful, groove-laden deepness has won him an army of admirers, and his releases and remixes (as a solo artist and alongside production partner Daniel Solar) for labels including Meerestief, MoonPool, Kina, Ostwind and Diynamic Music have found support from the scene's biggest names.
DJ, Singer and Producer Virginia is in a hot vein of form right now. Having just released the wonderful 'From Above' with Butch on Area Remote, and with releases lined up on Plastic City, ADR, and Pokerflat, alongside label boss Steve Bug, 2009 is set to be a big year for the multi-talented artist. Her delicate and warm tones add a unique and dynamic element to her productions. Today's release is another wonderful example...
Lead track 'See My Eyes' is a beautiful piece of music. Crisp Toms open the show, classic deep synth stabs, and as the sweet vocal opens, a deep rumbling, rolling bassline.
Track two sees the original reworked by regular Darkroom Dubs artist Andy Graham aka Sei-A. Renowned for his deep and lush productions, here again he takes the same route. Staying true to the original and respectful to the vocal, he creates an epic soundtrack, and one that will again please his fans and many others...
Rounding out the package Marc & Virginia bring us the sound track to all of our Saturday nights with 'Freaks'. Wicked handclaps, brilliant vocal and rolling drums make this a dead cert for everyone's sets...
Darkroom Dubs deliver yet another choice house release for your record boxes, bags and wallets... remember to keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming remix packages of the Silicone Soul singles... closer than you might think!
Enjoy!

Back in late 2008 I brought you a winter sampler from Silicone Soul's Darkroom Dubs label that featured a number of tracks from upcoming releases. One of them, 'Mandan' and without doubt the most popular of the package came from Richard Rotfuß... aka Liapin.
Liapin, together with Eduard Hartter and Markus Liefke aka Liefko, are German trio Afrilounge. 2002 saw them begin their journey together, but it was with their 2004 Get Physical release 'The Dude' that they really announced their arrival. The success of the release saw them rewarded with the task of remixing M.A.N.D.Y.'s seminal classic 'Body Language'. Together the trio have released and remixed for a number of labels, including the likes of Connaisseur, 8Bit, Playmate, Systematic and Poker Flat.
2008 has seen Liapin branching out and delivering killer cuts himself. Solo projects have come on Connaisseur, Genowefa and Connect Four and now, after bringing you the lead track on the winter sampler, I am happy to be able to bring you the full... Mandan E.P.
Title track 'Mandan' is a huge groove-fest. Dubby bassline, cheeky vocal sample and delicate tom-toms make for a wicked number that has already picked up a host of big name support from guys including, Laurent Garnier, Dennis Ferrer, Steve Bug, DJ Hell, Agnes, Charles Webster and many more...
So time for the new additions, and they really do not come much better. Teaming back up with his boys, Afrilounge take 'Mandan' even deeper with their 'Afrilounge In Your Soul Dub'. Dubbing things out further, with hints of Djembe drums and bubbling effects, this really is a smokers delight. Soulful to the end.
Rounding out the package is a real gem from Liapin. 'Call It Deep', as the title explains, does delve in that direction, yet has a demon kick, that takes hold. Infectiously locking on, this track will have you grinding your way across the floor with a gangsta'S swagger. Stunning!
Overall, I think you will be hard pushed to find a finer promo release in your inbox this weekend. Liapin and the Afrilounge boys are true masters of their craft.... Get down, and get funky!

Silicone Soul's fantastic Darkroom Dubs label returns in swift fashion, fresh from the success of their current Sound Of Glasgow release that featured tracks from a couple of Scotland's most exciting new talents, Sei-A and Gary Beck.
For this new release we hop across the water to the shores of Northern Ireland to catch up with DRD regulars the Jet Project. The Shine and Stiff Kitten residents, Timmy Stewart and John McIver are in the form of their lives right now. Previous releases on this label have shot them to the fore of the techno world, and with their current remix of Matt Playford's 'Analogue Tear' on Paul Woolford's Intimacy label doing well, and a stunning EP for Steve Lawler's Viva Music on the horizon, the guys trademark ass-kicking brand of techno is set to heard throughout 2009.
Here they deliver a collection of their finest work to date on the 'Monkey Skulls E.P.' A melting pot of styles and influences, this four-track selection takes a major influence from the African continent, with traditional drums, vocals and percussion prominent in all. Yes there has been a host of releases with an ethnic flavour this season, but when they are as HEAVY as these, there is always room for more, in our record bags!
This is a mighty EP, so handle with care! Watch out for the Monkeys!!

To kick off the year in style, Silicone Soul’s Darkroom Dubs present a new series of vinyl releases. Inspired by early 80's Glaswiegen indie label, Postcard and their 'Sound Of Young Glasgow' ethos, they aim to showcase the hottest talent from their home city.
Both these artists need no introduction. Andy Graham aka Sei A productions are impossible to categorize and that's what makes his music so unique. His recent debut album, 'Editing Shadows' has gained universal critical acclaim and the 'album of the month' accolade in Dj Magazine.
2009 is set to be his year. On the flipside is Gary Beck, who is a man on a mission - forging his own definition of techno. With releases on Minus, Edit Select and Somabeta (Soma's new digital offshoot), he is an artist with a bright future.
