Tipzee aka Tom Pentony was born and raised in Gloucester city. He started listening to the Drum and Bass music back in the late ninties, inspired by the legendary “Drum & Bass show” on Radio 1 presented by DNB idols Fabio & Grooverider. Although he was to young to be going to the big raves, his love for Drum & Bass music started and progressed from there. Tom started DJing at the age of 15, and slowly converted to the breakbeat sounds of jungle/ Drum&Bass and within a year was playing local house parties, also managing to scam underage sets at a local bar in the city and recording mixtapes. At this time there were few Jungle nights nights in Gloucestershire, with everyone having to travel out of the city, unitl Missrepresent a well known local DJ started doing some nights locally coinciding with the launch of her new internet radio station Aftershock radio. Other residents at Aftershock at the time were owner Missrepresent, highly acclaimed new producer Callide, Nightwalker and MC Doni Business. Tipzee managed to secure himself a weekly slot with the new promoter on the station. Which also gave him the taste for playing to a live crowd at the fornightly Aftershock nights in Gloucester and also second room slots at The Valve Sound System, Charge Recordings and High Rollerz events at Swindon Brunel Rooms. From these nights Tipzee played alongside DJs such as Nicky Blackmarket, Hazard, Twisted Indiviual, Simon Bassline Smith, Zen, Phantasy, Pascal, Donovan Bad Boy Smith, Juiceman, UK Apache and Gary K to name but a few. No longer an Aftershock resident Tipzee’s residency lasted about two years with Aftershock ending due to commitments where he is currently studying Music Technology at college, this is where he first encountered musical production on a whole new level. Starting off Tipzee used programmes such as “Cubase SX” to find his sound. After a year or so of getting to know the ropes of MIDI sequencing/programming, Tipzee stepped up the level and started using the Apple Mac programme “Logic Pro 7”. This is where he really came into his element, creating intricate drum loops and experimental basslines that have become so prominent in his style. Going into 2007, Tipzee has a lot of projects on the go, the DataBass nights in Gloucester and Cheltenham as well as guest mixes for the “Liquid Soul show” with Subverse and the “Drum and Bass” show on GFM where he plans to showcase some of his work.
