Originally hailing from the north of England, Angela's introduction to music began at an early age, where her older brother was a dedicated Northern Soulie, going to venues such as the Wigan Casino, and even though the scene had faded by the time Angela was born, she recalls "he used to play all the vinyl and dance around the house with me, it also taught me what dedication Soul fans across the board have for the quality of their music, which has formed my lifelong obsession in attention to detail whether recording or performing live:I'm constantly analysing"
The Northern Soul connection continues as a chance meeting with repected journalist and broadcaster Paddy Grady, supporting Angela both in print (Blues and Soul) and regular playlist on his Northern soul radio station. Because of this it has led her to supporting The Impressions on their one of date in Northampton in May 08. To support one of the greatest soulacts of the 60's and 70's, Angela says "Supporting the Impressions is just phenomenal and needless to say my brother is speechless, they were one of his favourite acts and he saw them many times before I was even born!!!!"
Having finished her album Peaceful Rivers, she took the decision to make the journey to the Midem festival in Cannes to try and license the album, it was here that she arranged to meet Independant label Urban Essentials owner DJ Bigger Angela recalls"I couldn't believe we even got a meeting with someone of the calibre of Bigger, and when he said he wanted to sign the album, the rest of the meetings became pointless, the man is a legend on the Urban scene on both sides of the pond, and I quickly learnt his influence speads to markets across the world, with firm interest from America, Japan, Europe, Scandanavia and Brasil, within a couple of weeks we got a publishing deal and even licensed serve Below zero to Spanish Dance giants Blanco Y Negro for one of their forthcoming compilation albums"
Further opportunities have arisen through a free performance in a local gay club leading to countless bookings on Gay prides in 08 including Blackpool, Birmingham, LeedOxford, Huddersfield and Bradford .Coupled with this she has teamed up with producer/remixer extraordinaire Pete Martine (who has worked alongside such greats as Maria Carey) which has culminated in a couple of mixes under Sleazesisters and Starlett DJ's being mixed and reached No6 in the Commercial club charts in June 08.
The first single is due for release in June 08 and has already had spot plays on the likes of Radio 1 (Dave Pearce scoring it 10/10) Radio2, Galaxy network, Smooth, Kiss, Choice, 1xtra as well as countless pirate and community radio's across the UK.
2008 is going to be a great year for Angela Lewis Brown, but her Northern roots and upbringing will enable her to keep her feet firmly on the ground and focus on delivering quality music and live performances to the people that matter most in the Industry...Her fans
