Our band grew to become a band with songs of its own out of gigs performed during the french faculty soirées and the hops of the so called francophone weeks in Pécs. We can’t talk about an exact date of formation, but we may call the first faculty soirée as such (Mars 2007). In those days we solely entertained our fellow mates with funny covers of well-known bands like The Doors, Abba, Nirvana, Britney Spears, Dalida as well as with other notorious French hits. The group only consisted of two profs from the faculty (Sorin and Scaff) and of one of their students (Sancho) when the name ZAT was chosen, the nickname of an exotic fruit on the Reunion island (known in English as custard apple). The songs composed from the poems of the profs were first done by Sancho which were soon performed in the newly built buffet of the campus of University of Pécs. Mészáros Zsombor, a fellow student was one of the ZAT family during this epoch.
The history of ZAT continued after a long vacation to start afresh with a grown number. Perhaps it’s not surprising that it meant the admission of two students from the french faculty again: Zsófia Gyenge (flute, vocals) and Nóra Király (vocals).
The winter brought new changes in the band. Marci joined the band in the place of Zsombor and the girls. According to the situation back then each member of ZAT was born in a different country, a cool feature of the band. This changed a bit when we found Bea, who bursted into our band with great energies. She equiped ZAT with brand new colours. It’s a great coincidence that her family name is ZAThureczky.
A great happening in the life of ZAT was the tallent scout during PEN festival in Pecs, Hungary. After the success of this festival they got to perform on many other festivals and during the summer of 2008 the band recorded its first studio material. Of these recordings they came out with their very first EP, called "4FreE" which contains four songs and a bonus track.
Zat is about to perform as many gigs as possible overcoming geographical boundaries with pleasure.
