The Public

About Me

this is our lovely performance at 28 & b skateparkbig thanks to skater!THE PUBLIC 4-28-08 28th & B SKATEBOARD PARK!!
..once upon a time, there were five little girls who decided that there just wasn't enough estrogen in the world of rock & roll.
they called themselves the public.
and this is their story.
the public is a band that formed during the summer of 2007.
at the time, it only consisted of three members: gayle [guitarist] rachel [drummer] and catie [vocalist]. it was during their very first practice that gayle, rachel, and catie realized something that they were missing something pretty crucial:
a bassist.
but there was a problem. the public didn't know any female bassists. and [because one of their key rules was that there was no testosterone allowed in the band itself] they couldn't ask any of their male friends to play with them. so they were stuck.
luckily, catie's very best friend riley [whom she had known since the age of three] was born with great taste in music and extremely long fingers. so she agreed to step in and learn how to play bass for them.
but there was still something missing.
the songs that the public had written sounded a little bit thin. they were missing an extra kick that they felt they needed.
that's when catie got an idea. she knew a killer guitarist who had played in her brother ben's old band, and who was currently available.
and that's when anmarie came in. a second guitarist proved to be just what the band needed. plus, she was a lot of fun to be around. so that was an added bonus.
so the months went by and everything seemed to be running smoothly. but they still hadn't booked any shows, and were beginning to get a little bit anxious.
it was during the month of november that riley made an important decision. in a way that was both classy and mature, she bowed out of her position in the band. riley was [and is] an amazing swimmer, and said she could see her swimming getting in the way of her music, and therefore holding the entire band back.
luckily for the public, they happened to know an amazingly talented [and stylish] bass player by the name of lynzi. after a few messages back and forth, and some conversations between her and anmarie, lynzi was on the bandwagon.
so here they are. loving music, life, and each other. they may be a band made up of only girls, but the public is by no means a "girl band."
and if you want to tell them that the rock business is a man's game,
then you can kiss their ass.
