Rey Fresco

It would be hard to classify the sounds of Rey Fresco. This eclectic Ventura based ensemble has only been together for less the one year, but has already created a significant buzz in southern California. Veracruz harp, drums, bass, and vocals are the core of Rey Fresco. Some people have described Rey Fresco's music as a polyrhythmic combination of syncopated and melodic arpeggiated melodies executed on the harp, groove-lounge drums beats with hip hop and even metal flavors, a thick pumping bass line, and soulful singing to top it off. The members of Rey Fresco all met about ten years ago and have been friends since.Lead singer Roger Keiaho was born in the south pacific Fijian islands, and moved to the United States at the age of five. Roger's ability to captivate an audience and please a crowd is testament to his vocal skill.Andrew Jones was born and raised in a small town outside of Philadelphia, and moved to Ventura when he was 14 years old. He has been playing the drums for seven years and has never received a drum lesson. Apart from being a talented drummer, he has also ventured into the realm of drum making. Andrew makes surf boards at Patagonia in Ventura, and has applied his knowledge and skill to making his own custom fiber glass drum kits that he sells to exclusive drummers.Shawn Echevarria was born and raised in Ventura where he resides with his wife Nicole and daughter Penelope Lane. Shawn has been playing the bass for seven years and has developed and is continuing to cultivate is musical skill with Rey Fresco and other bands in the Ventura area, and he and his father also own their own painting business called Hot Steppers Painting.Xocoyotzin Moraza (pronounced sho-ko-yot-seen) is the harpist, guitarist, and requinto jarocho player in the ensemble. Xocoyotzin was born and raised in Ventura and has been playing the traditional music of Veracruz known as the son jarocho for 22 years, and is a specialist on the harp, requinto jarocho, and the jarana. The Moraza family is from the west side of Ventura and has been providing cultural enrichment and awareness of tradition in the Ventura County for longer then 30 years.
