About Me

Steve Palousek has established himself as one of the premier pedal steel guitarists in the world. He began picking at the age of 16 and it didn't take long for him to become one of the most respected performers in the business. As a sought after session player at various Nashville studios and Sound Masters in Houston , Steve broadened his studio knowledge to include engineering, mixing, arranging, composing and production. After honing these skills to the sharpest level, Steve established the first Awesome Works Recording Studio. As a multiple award winning instrumentalist, Steve has achieved his success not only through pure, physical, talent, but also from his extensive knowledge of music theory and his versatility on all stringed instruments. Although a master of the steel guitar in country music, Steve is a top notch picker of many other styles including jazz, rock, gospel, pop and blues.Born and raised in Temple, Texas, Steve had become the staff steel guitarist on the Louisiana Hayride before his 21st birthday. At the age of 23 he received the Texas Steel Guitar Assoc. Rising Star Award; at 24, Honorable Mention and Hall of Fame Awards; at 25 the Player of the Year Award. He has played on the Grand Ole Opry, Austin City Limits, Nashville Now,Church Street Station, Texas Connection and many other shows. Steve has also toured with many great artists like Gene Watson, Gary Stewart and Ray Price. If all of this leaves you shaking your head - there's more. Steve added "instructor" to his long list of achievements when he created and produced a series of instructional video courses. Emmons Guitar Company, recognizing the quality and functionality of these courses, purchased the rights to the videos and continues to sell them world-wide. In addition to video instruction, he also appears as a guest lecturer for various college music courses.Steve Palousek's newest release (2007) is a collection of instrumentals featuring the steel guitar. Steve has included original compositions with country, jazz and gospel greats. "Let The Games Begin" gets it's title from the mouth of Steel Guitar God, Buddy Emmons and was produced, recorded and mixed by Steve Palousek at Awesome Works Recording in Holland, Texas USA. ************************************************************ *"I first met Steve Palousek in the 1980's while holding a weeklong workshop at the Jeffran College of Pedal Steel in Hermitage, Tennessee. Toward the end of the week, Steve was not only playing some of the more difficult phrases I had prepared for the class but, playing them exceptionally well. Needless to say, I was impressed, but later shocked to hear that he was disappointed in his performance that week and in tears as Jeff Newman drove him to the airport. It was hard to understand at first. But then I reminded myself that there were times in my past when I thought playing good was not enough. I knew then that he would be okay. Now, over twenty years later, Steve has lived up to my expectations with his dexterity, tone, speed and command of both the C6th and E9th tunings. He's the kind of musician who strives to reach beyond his years of experience and I'm happy to be able to say I played a small part in giving him a kick-start. From Jazz to Country, there is much to draw from on this CD. So, listen to it a few times. Pick a favorite. Then, sit down at your steel and let the games begin." ~Buddy Emmons 2007
