About Me

Take a walk with contemporary folk singer/songwriter-Jordan Burris. Let his timeless lyrics and gentle baritone open your heart. Let his melodies like the song of the whippoorwill take you back to an early Appalachian Sunday morning in June. Burris knows these mountains, let him lead the way. Born and raised in the fields and meadows of East Tennessee, Burris grew up surrounded by love. "My family is the most important thing to me." He notes, adding, "Someday my wife and I will build a house in these woods, to be close to where it all began." With influences ranging from Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan, to Leonard Cohen, John Prine and the Beatles, that journey back to where it all began is captured eagerly by the young poet in his debut CD simply titled "Jordan Burris". On the opening track, "Jukebox of the Lord" he explores and sometimes humorously examines the human condition, wondering out loud, "If I learn the words and I learn the chords, would you hear my song up there upon the Jukebox of the Lord?" And on "Knoxville Girl", he mourns the love he so desperately misses, admitting, "Half a nickel or a quarter of a dime is all I could offer thee. I hope that’s incentive to you stranger to wrap that cold pine box around me." "On some level, I want my music to make people think about specific angles of life." Jordan continues, trying to define his own musical message. "I just hope to address what’s important in a way that is both honest to myself and to the person listening." Those themes of honesty, strength and faith run deep in Burris’ soul. Take a walk with Jordan Burris, don’t be afraid to wander off on your own, into his tunes and his take on life. Sooner or later, you will find your way home. And when you do, Jordan Burris will be waiting for you there, like an old friend. - I edited my profile with Thomas’ Myspace Editor V4.4
