About Me

PEPITO DE TERNERA (Dude, 1994)

RADIO ON (Dude, 1995)

THE HEAVY METAL EP (Dude, 1995)

CUNT 2000 (Dude, 1996)

OPERACIÓN SALIDO (Dude, 1997)

A REIR, AMIGOS (Dude, 1998)

ENGLISH BIO
During a strange display of sincerity, Jesús Brotons (San Sebastián, 1971) defined himself on a certain occasion as "a non-recommendable fellow". According to those who know him, he continues being one. We are talking about a smoking and carnivorous individual, who knows nothing about football and rarely watches the television; who likes to listen (and create!) at untimely hours to music that has nothing in common with what the majority understands as such; he hoards records and, what is worse, he writes his own impressions on several publications.

The first signs of his doubtful moral came with the formation during the mid-nineties of Honcho, electronic duo that, according to the magazine Rock de Lux, "reminds us of the Residents and DAF". Three cassettes later,

PEPITO DE TERNERA (Dude, 1994)

RADIO ON (Dude, 1995)

THE HEAVY METAL EP (Dude, 1995)

Honcho will be transformed into Popular 66. Three more cassettes,

OPERACIÓN SALIDO (Dude, 1997)

A REIR, AMIGOS (Dude, 1998)

several performances (Sonar, LEM, G3G) and the end. The less to say about the non-recommendable fellow’s participation in Arcos De Nepal, the better. Already as a soloist, Brotons works both as an... ahem... musical journalist, and as a musician with a sonorous production in a progressive, constant delirium under the name Música Veneno: six CDs until now,

cooked by himself and, thanks to Hazard Records (Barcelona), available by mail and also as files that can be downloaded for free from the internet. Camouflaged behind the Musica Veneno screen, Brotons gives free rein to his permanent influences (Residents, Faust, Negativland, Superelvis...), and his presence has been tolerated, sometimes even applauded, at festivals such as LEM, BAM and Zeppelin from Barcelona and the Freestyle from Terrassa, plus at different spaces of Barcelona's area such as Sidecar, CCCB and Teatreneu.
If this wasn't enough, since 2000 Brotons is also a member of Sons Of Bronson, a noise group that mixes through the sampler the Japanese style of noise, the guttural spasms of death metal, seventies rock'n'roll and the squeaks and buzzes of the craziest experimental music. Sons Of Bronson have performed live several times, edited two CD’s and a half

MUSICA VENENO - LOVE STORY (CD-R by Hazard Records).
OK, so this is the (love) story: during the permanent Gracia Territori Sonor festival (in Barcelona, Spain), Hazard Records were asked to do a series of concerts. And they did, with the following bands: Superelvis, Obsolete Farmer, FMOL Trio minus one, David Rodriguez, Xavi Marx and File Under Toner. These concerts were all based on the song 'Love Story' by Francis Lai. You can imagine that this song was properly mutilated in all possible ways. But it doesn't simply end here: all the concerts were recorded by Musica Veneno, who in turn mutilated all these recordings into a live concert as well and then into one track of just over half an hour for this CD. This is serious desconstructivism, it seems. However, the beginning of the track sounds pretty much as one piece and then another and then another. It is difficult to tell whether any serious decomposing was done unto the original recordings; it sounds pretty much like a cutup thereof. Of course, there is nothing wrong with that, but somehow the story sounds more exciting than the result (in contrast to the subject of the review above). Anyway, the CD is nice enough, mind you. MUSICA VENENO - NON STOP EROTIC KARAOKE (3" CD-R by Hazard Records)
Non Stop Erotic Karaoke by Musica Veneno features seven tracks of eclectic electronic collage with a lot of humour and wit. Many sources are used to create the independant tracks and it is a lot of fun to listen to. And the cover is very nice as well.

LOS MIEDOS TONTOS - MUSICA VENENO (3" CD-R by Hazard Records)
This release was a give away item from Hazard Records for the magazine 'Habal Habalim' by a band called Los Miedos Tontos, which means, I am told, The Silly Fears. Besides that I don't know much about them. On this ten track 3" CDR they have ten little songs, which all centre around the use of keyboards, synthesizers, samplers and drum machines. However the songs are not abstract in anyway, but quirky little melodies that sound at times romantic, at times filmic and bears the influence of The Residents and Macromassa, an influential band, sadly not much known outside Spain. Nice small thing. (FdW)
