Los Angeles 3-piece Ultrawide formed in 1997 with a mission of providing an unedited channel of hard rock energy paired with thought-provoking lyrics and melodic vocals. The original lineup, consisting of Paul Albertson (drums), Matt Kropp (guitar) and Chris Varosy (vocals, bass), hit the ground running and blasted venues all over Los Angeles from 1997 to 1999, culminating in the release of their CD "Thin Lines" at the famous Key Club in Hollywood. The band recorded the album in a weekend at the now defunct A&M Studios, and it captured the live energy the band had honed. Standout tracks included "Manipulate" and crowd favorite "Assumptions." The material explored issues of values and priority, identity and action.
The new millenium brought changes for the band, which saw the departure of Matt and later Paul. Chris rebuilt the band with cousin/drummer Arno Ouwehand and guitarist Eric Malis. The sound edged heavier, and Eric's harmony vocals added texture.
In 2002, Eric returned to his native Florida and the band dissolved. Both Arno and Chris had become fathers, and gigging proved tough to manage. Chris continues to write and record with the help of many friends...
