ENTERTAINER/SONG-STYLIST ""COPY WRITTEN 2008""Music isn’t just a large part of Dawnie Love's life – it’s practically encoded in her DNA. The ethereal singer/songwriter has been performing since she could first muster the ability to pound on a suitcase along with a Beatles record. Today you’d pay upwards of twelve bucks to see that kind of thing in the East Village.Dawnie gained her first real experience in the mid-nineties when she joined the New England-based group Nzinga’s Daughters as a guitarist. After cutting her teeth with that group, the forward-thinking Dawnie Love put together her own band, the jazzy pop rock fusion act Swivel Hips (http://www.swivelhips.com). The all-female quartet garnered a large following in and around their native Hartford, CT, racked up several local awards, released their own CD, and opened for national acts such as Ani Difranco’s Bitchin’ Animal, the Neville Brothers, Juliana Hatfield, and Michelle N’degeocello. A crowd of 60,000 enjoyed the worldly sounds of Swivel Hips at the 2000 Millennium March in Washington, D.C.Six years of Swivel Hips was enough for Dawnie, who once again struck out on her own in 2003. Relocating to the Big Apple, the plucky songstress began honing her craft with a variety of artists, including G. Love bass player Jimi Jazz, noted drummer Chauncey Yearwood (http://www.myspace.com/chaunceyyearwood),tenor saxophonist, Lorenzo Sanguedolce, www.lozosax.com, songwriter Ben Davis, and electronic-rock music duo, Streetlab (http://www.streetlab.com). For that last one, Dawnie co-wrote and arranged the visceral, sinewy dance track "Mountain," featuring the ever-popular Sister Angie and features herself on "What is it for".Having effectively paid her dues, Dawnie Love is primed and ready to bring her rich organic soundscapes to listeners all over the world. She recently collaborated on ten shimmering soul-infused pop songs with producer Ron Gozzo, RGT Music Productions.
