I'm a librarian who resigned from my position to stay home with my kids. My husband is a doctor and also serves, quite often it seems, in the National Guard in nasty, hot, sandy places. He's previously served in Iraq, and returned this past Thanksgiving from Afghanistan. I can't say thanks enuf to the folks on the Hall-L list for their support! Sadly, it looks like he'll be going to Iraq, again, in 4/09.I love Halloween, really, really love it, and we change our theme every year. Which means new props to build, or parts of the house to destroy, every year. If you check my photos, you'll see the house for last year's pirate theme. Last year we had a haunted house, with the obligatory cemetary and possessed pumpkin patch in the yard, then the porch (40x15) will be a haunted nursery and voodoun room. Those pics are under Halloween 07. This coming year my hubby wants UFOs, but there are other things I want to make (a giant pumpkin king, for example, and zombify Baxter) so I'm not sure how to make this all mesh.
I lift weights and walk for exercise - when I remember to! I spend most of my time in home improvement projects, which in my mind includes Halloween. And the kids, come to think of it...Hey, what other time of the year do you not have to worry about those darn cobwebs all over the house?I guess another thing I really like is bungalows, AKA arts & crafts houses. Mine is built in 1920 and we're slowly working on it. Very slowly, now. I'm renovating the downstairs powder room into a more A&C style, and I just got some copper bean pot lamps with mica shades for my birthday. We have a round Stickley/Harvey Ellis reproduction table and another rocking chair. Luckily, the kids really seem to like it. I've refinished the mantel, saving it from 10 layers of paint, and will hopefully get the windows stained sometime this week. I was hoping to get either a new sofa table, coffee table or hall light for my hubby's birthday, but given our various health issues, that is obvious low on the list. But plenty of distraction to look at!
