With a gift for music in his blood, the son of Maxi Priest, Marvin Priest delivers the essence of his father’s legendary reggae/soul crooning, wrapped up with a solid dose of new-age flair.Born and raised in London’s south-eastern borough of Lewisham, a young Marvin benefitted from a childhood rich with musical influence from some of the biggest names in reggae music as well as time spent on the road as part of his father’s entourage and as a backup singer. From childhood Marvin was able to hone his craft and make contacts throughout the music world that would prove invaluable as his own career began to take shape.As a youth Marvin Priest toured with his father, Dennis Brown and Beres Hammond on Reggae Sunsplash Tours and in more recent times has joined his father on tour as an artist in his own right. Most recently Marvin shared the stage across Europe, New Zealand and Australia with the legendary UB40 whom he has also written and recorded with. His Australian and New Zealand performances were as part of the Ragamuffin Tour where along with The Wailers, Maxi Priest, Arrested Development and UB40, the naturally gifted performer played in front of tens of thousands of fans. Marvin returned to the region soon after the Raggamuffin Tour for a series of club performances.When it comes to song writing, Marvin demonstrates a natural flair for the craft having penned a hit song ‘Full Hundred’ for Maxi Priest in the UK as well as ‘Childhood’ which features on Maxi’s latest album ‘Refused’.Now based in the U.S, Marvin travels regularly to Jamaica and to the UK to record new material as well as keeping close to his musical and cultural inspirations as he cultivates his debut album. With a fusion of old soul and modern era sounds providing the basis of his musical direction, Marvin has recently teamed up with Australian super-producer M-Phazes who has applied his magic to hip-hop tracks by CL Smooth, Royce 5’9 and Supastition amongst others. This collaboration along with other renowned producers Stephen “The Genius” McGregor, the Kings of Kings Family and Ashes to Diamonds and with tracks featuring guest vocals from UB40, Arrested Development and Movemakers, Marvin Priest’s first effort is set to be an outstanding collection of sounds.With a solid drop of classic Jamaican rhythm and soul shaken and stirred with a fresh slice of new school production and you’ve got the ingredients for a great album in the making.
