About Me

Help us spread the message that there are approximately 1.3 Million homeless kids living in the U.S.- one of the richest countries in the world! DETROIT alone has one of the highest rates of runaways, foster care placements and youth prostitution- this includes both males and females!
Our youth shelters in Detroit are almost nil and services provided for youth under 18 without permission from parents are even more scarce!
Where is 14 year old girl going to sleep if her parents are homeless and they abandon her? Usually we find her in an alley being abused, or worse!
How is a 12 year old boy going to see a doctor if he never met his father and his mother disappeared on a drug bender?? We usually find boys like him hungry in the back rooms of crack houses!
Who is going to look out for and protect the millions of kids who run away every year because they are being sexually abused at home? We usually find them strung out and taken advantage of by pimps!
PLEASE help us bring youth homelessness and exploitation to an end! Spread the word about StandUp for Kids!!

Other ways to help include:
1. Adding us as a Friend.
2. Joining our Detroit volunteer program by visiting our website at WWW.STANDUPFORKIDS.ORG and clicking on the "Get Involved" link. We are especially looking for civic minded leaders to help us run our ALL VOLUNTEER program!
3. Donating your time or resources to help provide items for our kids such as food, clothing and hygiene supplies.
4. Writing to your state representatives to let them know that the issue of youth homelessness is one that you take very seriously and that they should as well.
5. Holding a "Turn Purple" Awareness Event in April to bring attention to Child Abuse and the resulting rate of youth homelessness, and/or hold a National Homeless Youth Awareness event in November to bring attention to this plight of these youth, who are all too often over-looked in an adult centered world.
We need people like you to help us "Be The Message!"
