About Me

"I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was absolutely necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out the marrow of life, as to live so sturdily and spartan - like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world: or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and to be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion."

thoreau

"I'd rather learn from one bird how to sing than teach ten thousand stars how not to dance."

e.e. cummings

"Fear not the great nor the mighty, but be wise and ever serene. Know the measure, know the times, study that. When left alone, pray...Love all men, love everything. Seek that rapture and ecstacy...Don't be ashamed of that ecstasy, prize it, for it is a gift of God and a great one; it is not given to many but only to the elect."

fyodor dostoevsky

"To be nobody but yourself in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight; and never stop fighting."

e.e. cummings

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

marianne williamson

"I shall pass this way but once; any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again."

Walk on

walk on

with hope in your heart

and you'll never walk alone

You'll never walk alone

My Interests

I enjoy singing, dancing, reading, hiking, writing, running, volleyball, cooking, sewing, listening to music, a good movie or tv show on dvd, games, working with children, babies, anything outdoors, and listening. I love polka dots, roses, trees, and observing someone performing an act of service when they think no one is looking.

And nothing, in my opinion, beats the smell of campfire, the early morning (especially after it's rained), or a clean baby.

The two great loves of my life:

Noah:

"...every second I live, that's the promise I make..."

Elena:

"...in my heart you will remain forever young..."

You Should Be a Social Worker
You are deeply caring and empathetic.
You are able to take on other people's problems as if they were your own.
Sensitive and intuitive, you understand human emotions well.
Helping others gives you the most joy in life. You feel like it's your purpose in life.

You do best when you:

- Have a lot of responsibility
- Greatly impact someone's life with your work

You would also be a good philanthropist or stay at home parent. What Should You Be When You Grow Up?

I'd like to meet:

Take the Quiz here!
You are Elizabeth Bennet of Pride & Prejudice! You are intelligent, witty, and tremendously attractive. You have a good head on your shoulders, and oftentimes find yourself the lone beacon of reason in a sea of silliness. You take great pleasure in many things. You are proficient in nearly all of them, though you will never own it. Lest you seem too perfect, you have a tendency toward prejudgement that serves you very ill indeed.

Music:

I love sitting in coffee shops in downtown Portland and listening to bands or artists with a story and a message.

Movies:

Anything different and not like every other film in its genre. If it makes me laugh, makes me sing, or makes me think, or maybe appeals to my art appreciation...bravo.

Books:

I don't jump on bandwagons, ever...I am not a bandwagoner!...but I admit I read the Twilight books...and got myself hooked. Embarrassing. As for my favorite books, well, I can't pick, and questions like this stress me out because it's like asking a tree which leaf is its favorite...you follow me? Probably not. I collect children's books, though, and I'll tell you two of my favorites in that category: The Giving Tree and Where the Wild Things Are.

Heroes:

Those who are transcendent and have given a part of that to me.

Autumn in Cedar

Happiness is...   Taking a detour on a tree-lined steet and crunching through the leaves by myself, looking up through the yellow trees to see the blue sky interspersed where leaves don't take up...

That which has recently amused me in the daily repetition of my schedule...

Nicole. I told her how I appreciate the feel of a good amount of stubble on a man and she left me goofy comments on Myspace all day about how she'd show up to our catering event with a beard. Guess wh...

Mothers Day and why I hate the word tolerant

Tonight I thought about the word tolerant and I decided I hate it. Okay, maybe not the word itself. Probably the general application of it. What kind of arrogant statement is that, to say "I am tolera...

Thank you for all of your wisdom and love, and for being a second father to me for the last two years.   I will never forget you.

Slightly melancholy, but nothing like preschool's end last summer

Today was my last day at the preschool and I didn't realize until someone said, "How was your last day," after the fact, and I was sad that I didn't say goodbye to the kids! Bummer, man. Oh well. I go...
