JOHN CENA & TRADEMARC
COLUMBUS SHORT =]
CHRIS TROUSDALE
DOUGIE POYNTER
whether you think it or not,
someone really loves you.
someone wants to hold you in their arms.
someone thinks you're perfect.
someone wants to be just like you.
someone thinks you're beautiful.
someone wants to hold your hand.
and someone thinks you're everything.
I've learned that no matter how much I care,
some people are just assholes.
I've learned that it takes years to build up trust,
and it only takes suspicion, not proof, to destroy it.
I've learned that you shouldn't compare yourself to others;
they are more screwed up than you think.
I've learned that the people you care most about in
life are taken from you too soon and all the less important ones just never go away.
It's not the way you look at her,
It's not the way you say her name,
It's not that way you hold her tight,
It's not the way you tell her shes beautiful.
It's the way you look at her like no one else matters
It's the way you say her name like it's the only thing on your mind
It's the way you hold her even though everyone is looking
It's the way you remind her she's beautiful in a world where she's never good enough.
Before Sidekicks & iPods; PlayStation2 or X-BOX.
Before the 5 hours of homework you put off every night.
When light up sneakers were cool
& when you rented VHS tapes, not DVDs.
When gas was $0.65 a gallon
& caller ID was a new thing;
when we recorded stuff on VCRs
& paid $3.50 for a movie.
When we called the radio station to request songs
to hear off our walkmans;
when 2Pac & Biggie were alive.
When the Chicago Bulls were the best team ever;
Way back when we played tag, Hide-&-Go Seek at dusk,
red light, green light, heads up 7 Up;
playing kickball & dodgeball until your porch light came on,
hopscotch, slip-&-slides, hula hoops, skip-its.
Remember reading R.L. Stine's GooseBumps series,
the annoying NanoPets & Furbies,
running through the sprinklers,
crying when Mufasa died in the Lion King,
Happy Meals where you chose a Barbie or a Hot Wheels car,
getting the privilege to sit in the front seat of the car.
But wait; how about watching saturday morning cartoons
in your PJ's, still wrapped up in your Garfield comforter,
Hey Arnold, Doug, Rugrats, The original Power Rangers,
Or what about The Secret Life of Alex Mac, Ren & Stimpy,
Double Dare, Rocko's Modern Life, Real Monsters,
Wild & Crazy Kids, Clarissa Explains it All,
Salute Your Shorts, Are You Afraid of the Dark?
The original cast members of All That, Kenan & Kel,
The Magic School Bus, Flash Forward, Pete & Pete,
Legends of the Hidden Temple, Hey Dude, Dinosaurs,
Pinky & the Brain, Blossom, Hangin' With Mr. Copper,
My So Called Life, Wishbone, Bill-Nye the Science Guy.
Who could forget Snick & Nick @ Nite with Bewitched,
I Dream of Jeanie, The Facts of Life, & I Love Lucy.
Where everyone wanted to be in love after watching
The Wonder Years, or Nick Jr. with Face, Gulah-Gulah Island,
Little Bear, Under the Umbrella Tree,
The Busy World of Richard Scary,
The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
& Kool-Aid was the drink of choice,
wearing your new shoes on the first day of school,
class field trips,
when Christmas was the most exciting time of year,
when $5 seemed like a million,
& another dollar a miracle.
When you begged to go to McDonalds for dinner everyday,
when Toys 'R' Us overuled the mall.
Go back to the time when argument's were only started
when it came to who was gonna be the red ranger,
decisions were made by going 'eeny-meeny-miney-moe',
mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming 'do over!'
'Race issue' meant arguing about who ran the fastest,
money issues were handled by whoever was banker in 'Monopoly'
It wasn't odd to have two or three 'best' friends,
being old referred to anyone over 20,
a chance to skate as a couple at the local
roller rink was like winning the lottery,
scrapes & bruises were kissed & made better.
It was a big deal to finally be tall enough to ride
the 'big people' rides at the fair;
when playing Nintendo was the hardest thing ever,
when Ninja Turtles ruled the world,
when a candy bar at the grocery store was
the highlight of your day,
when coupons collected all year could get you
a prize in your class auction,
when the only thing you cried over was your
mom being late to pick you up,
when stress was addition & subtraction,
when friendships were as complicated as
who's house to sleep over,
when shaving cream was just meant for play,
when a first kiss only lead to cooties,
when Valentines Day meant cards for all,
when birthdays were a class event,
when a friend moving away was the saddest day of your life,
when the summer lasted forever,
when time didn't matter.
These were the days we hadn't realized
escaped us until it's all brought back.
So everyone has said that they won't drift away & that they'll call & keep in touch. And hey, who's to blame them if they don't call or keep in touch? Everyone's busy during the summer, right? But then, think about it, if you actually did care enough for someone & they actually were pretty close to you, wouldn't you make time to at least say 'hello' or 'what's up?' I've tried my best to keep in touch; trust me, I've never made so many phone calls just to say hello, but how many people answered? No one. So yeah, thanks for keeping in touch.
They sat together, as just friends.
11:11 rolled around, & someone yelled
"make a wish."
they wished for each other.
love is when a mysterious thing,
it takes two people
&& two hearts that want
to share one world
you think you know who your true friends are? wait until high school & see whos there for you when your ex boyfriend spreads rumors about you. think you'll never do drugs? wait until its right there in front of you & all your "friends" are doing it. think your tough? wait until you say the wrong thing to the wrong person - see who backs down first. think your smart? wait until you have an english project, science project, history test, & a ten minute monologue due tomorrow cause you were absent for one day. think your cool? wait until you're the only one that doesnt make the sports team - see how cool you are then. think you're popular? wait until your parents cant afford the new hollister jeans that everyone has. think you'll never fall in love? wait until a guy looks deep into your eyes & says he loves you. think you'll never get your heart broken? wait until that same guy that said he loved you is holding another girl behind your back. think you're always going to be your own individual? wait until one morning when you look in the mirror, & you're just like everyone else.
I still remember your favourite colour, the scent of your cologne, and that you can't go 10 minutes without your socks. You look all mean and angry on the outside, but inside you were just waiting for someone to give you a chance. I know that basketball is one of the few things you and your dad can do together without arguing, and that you've never been in love before. You like working out and keeping yourself fit because your family is overweight and you don't want to end up like that, and you practice singing because you know chicks dig that. I remember how cute you were when I made you do something you didn't want to do, but you secretly enjoyed doing it because it was for me. I won't tell anyone that you cried that time I got mad and went offline, because you thought you were going to lose me. Then that other time things just got really emotional; and that third time when you wrote me one of many goodbye letters. You know I meant something to you, we both know you never ever cry. Gang bangers just don't do stuff like that, it's weak, right baby? I won't forget that you didn't like calling me 'baby' because you thought it was disrespectful and how you'd eat Ramon noodles for a week straight instead of cooking just so we could have more time to talk. Those summer days, talking from 11AM - 2:00AM will be something I'll never forget. Our conversations, everything we talked about; I'll remember it all. I'll always be that girl you fell in love with, and lied to you, and you'll always be the best thing that ever happened to me--the one that got away. No matter what happens in the future, if we ever lose contact completely, I just want you to know that I will never forget that summer, and we were a lot more than just a summer thing. I am a different person now because of you, and your future is better because of me. We did so much for each other, so if there's one last thing I want you to do for me, honey, please don't ever forget me. Don't ever forget us.
