I am here for Friends

About Me

Born 1941, lived in many different places until 9th grade, then in Reseda where I graduated High School (barely) in 1958.Knowing that I was never going to go to school again, I joined the Navy in '58 and became a radioman (3rd class). I was on a tanker (USS Ponchatoula - AO148, now retired) home ported in Hawaii at Pearl Harbor. I did 2 tours to the western pacific... Japan, Hong Kong, Phillipines, Singapore, etc. When I learned that I could get out of the Navy 3 months early if I was registered to go to college, I quickly registered at Pasadena City College and got out 3 months early! My dad lived in Pasadena at the time.I enrolled in math classes and found that I just loved that subject! Obtained my AA in 1964, working full time. Transferred to CalState LA as a math/physics major but through a quirk of fate, found audiology when I was just 15 units from my BS in math! My first daughter, Wendy, was born in 1966 at St. Lukes Hospital in Pasadena. Switched major to speech pathology/audiology and obtained my BA in 1968. Continued on to obtain my MA in audiology in 1969.By now, I was hooked and decided to pursue a PhD in audiology. Went to one of the three finest programs at the time at the Univ. of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. My second wonderful daughter, Lynn, was born in 1971 at the Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City in 1971. Obtained the PhD in 1972.Interviewed for several positions and decided to come to Redlands at the Audiology Center of Redlands in June, 1972. Married Jan in 1975 and my 3rd daughter, Megan, was born at Redlands Community Hospital in 1979. According to her, she is "A WONDERFUL, AMAZING, PERFECT,FANTASTIC, AND TALENTED DAUGHTER!" (her statement - I gotta agree or she'll beat me up) My associate, Dr. Riordan, MD, retired in 1993 and I became the owner of the Audiology Center of Redlands. Retired as of Jan. 1, 2006.I have 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandaughter!In addition to being a clinical audiologist, I also taught audiology at CalState LA, UCR and the University of Redlands. I love to teach (but I'm a tough teacher) and maybe that's where Lynn and Megan got their love of teaching! They are both awesome teachers!!
