The International Harp Guitar Gathering is the brainchild of world-renowned harp guitarist Stephen Bennett.
Conceived in 2003 as a first-ever gathering of harp guitar players, builders, historians and fans from across the globe, it was successful enough to be re-christened the First Annual Harp Guitar Gathering.
Hosted in beautiful Williamsburg, Virginia by Stephen's family and friends, the first event drew attendees from across the U.S. and Europe.
The full weekend consisted of workshops and presentations by world-class players, luthiers and historians, along with two concerts for an amazed public. In all the world, never before had an entire stage and evening been taken over by a sea of harp guitars and their performers!
Since then, the Harp Guitar Gathering has been hosted in Salem, Oregon and Naples, Florida by renowned harpguitarists John Doan and Andy Wahlberg respectively.
In October 2007, the Gathering will return to Williamsburg, Virginia and be hosted once again by founding artist, Stephen Bennett.
In October 2008, Andy McKee will host the Gathering in the midwest with a weekend of harpguitar music and discussion in Lawrence, Kansas.
Individual in what it offers the musical world, the International Harp Guitar Gathering is a special opportunity to hear one of the worlds most uncommon stringed instruments, performed by world-class musicians.
