About Me

Where do you start,? I don't know many of the lyrics from the Sound of music, but if I do remember from singing it many years ago at school it did mention something like "lets start at the very beginning". I was born as an only child,(thus the spoilt bit maybe) to Jack & Grace Wright, both sadly departed this mortal coil,in Wymington a small North Bedfordshire village in 1950. I didnt' really go much on the 1950's and I think I was just waiting for the next & best decade to explode into my life.! The music, the fashion, the liberation and the overall feeling of well being just washed over everybody & everything. My involvement in the music was probably unleashed in about 1963,when I have to trade my love of the Hornby train set for a drum kit.(no contest in many ways),although I would love the train set again now. My mates and myself formed the obligatory group and played at the village youth club, and once you have experienced that thrill of doing any public performance you are hooked on the adrenalin rush. My love of the music went off at the now obvious tangent of listening to Radio Luxembourg,(I know you have read all about that from anyone else who has been like me & Nobby no mates sort of a bloke). But out of all this came a very serious and deep obsession when the offshore radio explosion came on the airwaves in 1964 and the breath of fresh air from the likes of Radio Caroline. In the December of that same year the slickest station joined Caroline off Frinton-on-sea in Essex & she was Radio London. Even after we had the thrill of Radio London & Radio Caroline which went out on medium wave,it was still my want to take the transistor radio to bed with me & go up and down the dial just longing to pick up a new station.I seem to recall plenty of propaganda stuff coming out of some countries that were transmitting utter political garbage. But in between all of that I would get a buzz from wondering what is what like where the announcer was sitting,be it he or she, and I think that is what you still get from the wireless. You see sometimes too much on television & you don't have to get out that mental paintbrush and canvas. So radio will always score in that department. I never got out of that yearning for the better things in life radio wise, and wanted to spin my own discs(as they were then)so I combined my un-dying love of the 60's music, my addiction to drumming and came up with the show that I have done for many years the "60's Sunday.(you may yell from the cheap seats, grow up and come into the 21st century),but I am that deaf now that I can't hear you anyway.!!!! You can tune in to the show every Sunday morning from 09.00-11.00 on 102.3 fm or on line at www.harboroughfm.co.uk I think I can safely say it is the only show on the station that has gone out live every week without fail. To keep up to date with all of my stuff click on my webpage www.freewebs.com/paulwright2007, and hopefully stay in touch with the show & myself.Happy listening wherever you are in the world.
