La Mo' Better Band nasce da un'idea di Fabrizio Leonetti, leader e clarinettista del gruppo: fondere la versatilità e l'organico tipici della classica banda di paese, con l'energia di un repertorio che attraversa tutti i generi del jazz: dal dixieland al funky, dal latin jazz al blues (anche se il Boss stesso ammette che: "...negli ultimi anni la band sta concentrandosi quasi esclusivamente sul funky: è il genere che meglio esprime l'energia della Mo' Better"). L'obiettivo della band è di portare questo tipo di musica per le strade, in mezzo alla gente, per farla ascoltare anche a chi non è appassionato di jazz, per sfatare il (falso) mito che questa musica sia noiosa! Anzi! Ascoltare (e vedere) la Mo' Better Band è un' esperienza che lascia la voglia di portare il tempo con i piedi e un largo sorriso stampato in faccia per un buon quarto d'ora dalla fine dell'ultimo brano. Il curioso nome della band proviene da Mo' Better Blues, lo splendido brano eseguito magistralmente, nell'omonimo film di Spike Lee del 1990, dal Brandford Marsalis Quartet.
Il gruppo nasce in una sera di luglio del 2003, quando 12 musicisti (10 fiati e 2 percussioni) si ritrovano quasi per caso a suonare proprio quel "Mo' Better Blues" in una Teramo affollatissima, ottenendo un imprevedibile quanto inaspettato successo di pubblico; ed è stata in quella sera che si è concretizzata l'idea di fare di quella formazione quasi casuale una streetband stabile: era nata la Mo' Better Band! Nel 2007 entrano a far parte della band anche un nuovo sax tenore e un sax baritono, portando così l'attuale organico della Mo' Better a 14 elementi.
E grazie all'entusiasmo, all'energia e, soprattutto, all'eccezionale bravura dei suoi 14 ragazzi, la Mo' Better Band è diventata in breve tempo una nuova realt´ del panorama musicale italiano, che al tempo stesso non è né una banda di paese, né una classica street band dixieland, né una brass band funky: la Mo' Better Band è tutto questo e molto di più!

The Mo' Better Band starts thanks to the idea by Fabrizio Leonetti (the band's leader and clarinettist) of mixing the typical structure and versatility of the Italian marching band together with the energy of a repertory that goes through all kinds of jazz music: from dixieland to funky, from latin jazz to the blues (nevertheless the Boss himself admits that "...in the last few years the band has been concentrating almost exclusively on funky: it's the type of jazz that better expresses the energy that comes out of the Mo' Better Band"). The band's aim is to bring this kind of music down the streets, to make people (even those who don't like it ) listen to it, and to explode the (false) myth which considers this music as boring... far from that! Listening (and watching) to the Mo' Better Band leaves you the desire to beat time with your feet and a big smile on your face for a good quarter of an hour after the end of the last song! The funny name of the band comes from Mo' Better Blues, the wonderful piece masterfully performed by the Bradford Marsalis Quartet in the homonymous 1990 film by Spike Lee.The group was born in a warm night of July 2003, when 12 musicians (10 winds and 2 percussions) found themselves playing that same "Mo' Better Blues2 in an incredibly crowded Teramo, having an unforeseeable and unexpected success; that very night gave body to the idea of turning an almost accidental bunch of musicians to a permanent streetband: the Mo’ Better Band was born! In 2007 a new tenor sax and a baritone sax join the band, bringing the present group to 14 elements.Thanks to the enthusiasm, the energy and, most of all, to the exceptional talent of its 14 guys, the Mo' Better Band has become in a real short time a new reality in the Italian music panorama, being not only a marching band, nor a classical dixieland streetband or a funky brass band: the Mo' Better Band is all this and a lot more!
