Squidfarm Disaster

About Me

Was born in late -90s with the idea to create something somewhat new in music. Had some initial problems letting go of the metal roots (all three members hailing from black metal/death metal bands). At first came up with some kind of goth sounding songs, which the members weren't proud of. After letting go of all ideas of how it SHOULD sound they came up with something sounding quite odd, which satisfied the members. Called it horror tango for a while, but that description isn't really fitting. The whole idea can be described as two parts; one for the music and one for the lyrics. Music was written and recorded in the "studio" (actually an old school) during 10 nights - one song each night. All over a period of 2-3 years. It was improvised, and whatever was recorded was recorded - mistakes kept as something unique. The lyrics were written in a style Silly and Octo named chaos poetry. Just trying to capture an emotion with whatever words flew out at the time. The words in themselves wasn't important, except for some passages that perhaps make sense. There is no message at all. The members find such things uninteresting. What is special about Squidfarm Disaster is the "instruments" being used. Instead of sampling sounds the members actually dragged different objects into the studio. An anvil being the heaviest part of equipment. Other examples are buckets, chairs and chains. The members themselves often performed as "objects" themselves. Stomping, yelling, making sounds with the throats and so on. Of course, one of the bigger problems for the band has been to be taken seriously. People tend to see Squidfarm Disaster as a fun band, trying to make people laugh. That is, however, not the case at all. But then again Squidfarm Disaster is closer to pure art than "just" music for the sake of something to listen to and experience live. This band tried to bring different inner experiences and steered away from humanity. Trying to sound like something not man made. Made 10 songs, not including the first tries, out of which the 5 first ended up on the mini cd "Half a Squid" from Irritum records (www.irritum.com). Still got 5 songs lying around (has been for several years). As there has never been any interest in making money out of the music the idea has been to just spread the shit on the web. Laziness has stopped this, until now. Squidfarm Disaster is yet alive, but noone knows if the "band" ever will do anything together again.
