I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I am a 25-year-old graduate of Kent State University. I did my undergraduate work here as a history major with a minor in geography. Favorite time period to focus on: the Holocaust. I was fortunate enough to write a thesis on three Holocaust memoirs: Elie Wiesel's Night, Primo Levi's Survival in Auschwitz, and Corrie Ten Boom's The Hiding Place.
I recently finished my MLIS, and I hope to one day be a young adult librarian. I am very passionate about YA literature, and the right for everyone to read what they want without censorship. Although I don't have a library job yet, I'm often found booktalking to my coworkers and peers, doing research for them, and helping them use library resources.
I'm most often found with my nose stuck in a book, and my librarian counterpart at my side :) I'm currently employed on campus in the same department I've worked in the for the past five years - although I've transitioned to "Graduate Secretary" for the time being. I work mostly with the graduate program, but have had some interesting things outside of this category that I've had to do - everything from assisting at conferences to catching birds in the stairwells :)
In my "spare time" (whatever that is), I enjoy photography and scrapbooking, movies, music (mostly country), working out, reading, and writing.
I met my boyfriend after my first year in the MLIS program; we're a pretty nerdy couple, if I do say so myself...he's the nonfiction to my fiction!

Favorite Quotes:

"We accept the love we think we deserve." - Stephen Chbosky, The Perks of Being a Wallflower

"There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I've loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough." - Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook

"You want a man who will lead you down the beach with his hand over your eyes, just so you can discover the feel of sand underneath your feet. You want a guy that'll wake you up at dawn; he's just bursting to talk to you, can't wait another minute, just to find out what you'll say..." - Runaway Bride

"Librarians...were somewhat on a par with God -- who else could be bothered with, and better yet, know the answers to so many different types of questions? Knowledge was power, but a good librarian did not hoard the gift. She taught others how to find, where to look, how to see." - Jodi Picoult, The Pact

"Mom, can I take you to my therapist? Because he thinks I'm making you up..." - Will & Grace

"Heroism on command, senseless violence, and all the loathsome nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism - how passionately I hate them!" - Albert Einstein

As summer slips away...

It's amazing to think how many things have happened this summer; and yet, it seems to have slipped away, just out of reach.  Such is life. It's been slightly depressing: I don't think anyone I've...

Anyone want a kitten?

A little over a week ago, Ryan and I noticed another stray kitten hanging outside around the apartment.  As our apartment is on the first floor, but more like a basement-level apartment, we could...

Spring...plz?

The first day of spring arrived this past week - the same day that more snow fell on a semi-empty campus.  I was excited, because I naively assumed it would be "dead" over spring break, and I cou...

A good weekend always includes some Olive Garden...

It's been a crappy weekend thus far - not gonna lie.  I was really tired on Friday after a long day at work, so I ended up crashing with Edward on my bed when I got home.  No sooner did I co...

This whole "winter" thing...kinda getting old!

One way you can tell you live in a college town: during winter, snow penises adorn front lawns.  Festive. About mid-February, that snow stops looking quite so "beautiful" and becomes downright an...

February Update.

It's hard to believe we're almost halfway through February already - 2008 is flying by in much the same manner as 2007.  It's been busy around Kent, just as it has been since I started this job i...

Three Day Weekend

After the first week of classes, it's nice to have an extra day off.  Granted, I am finished with my coursework and don't have any classes, but last week was still a bit crazy for me - applicant ...

New Years Resolutions and the like...

2008 is here at last - after months of waiting for 2007 to finally be over with.  It was a hard year.  Nothing all that horrible happened...it was just a pileup of one crappy thing after ano...

Update

It's been so busy here lately; I can hardly find the energy to read anymore, let alone update MySpace or work on anything else.  Somehow, I managed to get a few Christmas cards done, but that's t...
