The age old adage “two is better than one,†is personified by the dynamic duo Colorblind. An explosion of bombastic rhythm and intense energy is what Colorblind brings to the table in this industry filled with violence, misconceptions, and stereo types. Common differences such as, race, background, and religion that would normally separate people in our society is what intertwines these two artists. Making a difference in the world one song, one show, and one interview at a time, Colorblind refuses to accept mediocrity and strives for the extraordinary.
Colorblind is made up of two individuals who together create a movement phenomenal, for the whole world to take in. There are two sides to every story and Colorblind’s story is comprised of one sultry voice and one spit fire rapper. Born Peter John Rodriguez III, but on stage he is known as “P3.†Growing up in a small town, Port Lavaca, Texas, did not leave P3 with small town dreams. Knowing “big time†was where he wanted to be, he decided to make Corpus Christi his home. As a rapper he aims to find a place next to his idols such as Tupac, Jay-Z, and Biggie Smalls. Standing out from the crowd, P3 brings many different personalities to his music using various styles in order to create a sound all his own. P3 has the capability to create rhymes in no time and spit them out with lightening speed. The other personality of Colorblind is Willie Wheat III, straight from the south, Montgomery, Alabama. Affecting the world with his music was not his only goal in life, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Faulkner University. His experiences in the classroom allowed him to develop ambitions that he would later apply to his musical career. Growing up in a humble Christian home leads him to be thankful for every degree of success big or small. Infused with charisma, Willie can seduce anyone with his smooth lyrics and southern charm.
Aspiring solo careers both artists were on different paths, while sharing the same label. All it took was one late night in the studio, recording a song for Willie’s debut album when everyone in the room noticed the song was incomplete. That is when Tony Calderon, President of Evident Music Group/ Visionary records called in P3 to do a verse to complete the song and noticed chemistry that was beyond solo careers for the both of them. Long time friends and Visionary Records business partners, Tony Calderon and Ed Ocanas could sense something astounding about the music these two artists created together. Inspired by the chemistry both P3 and Willie Wheat shared, Tony Calderon and Ed Ocanas had no doubt in their minds that the love of music became these two artist’s bond allowing the product of Colorblind to manifest into what it is today and what it will be tomorrow. Quickly in the studio after their decision to unite, P3 and Willie Wheat began working on their self-titled debut album with noteworthy producers, Happy P, Steve-O Valdez, Russell Lee, and their chief engineer Mariano Herrera. Through their addictive productions by their very own Grammy award winning producer Mariano Herrera, late nights in Evident Studios became their cornerstone to the Colorblind movement to put their stamp on the world by saying “no†to stereotypes and by allowing racial discrimination to be eliminated through their own music.
Becoming “Bash Approved†does not happen over night, or come with ease. Colorblind constantly fights for the spotlight by allowing the music to speak for itself. Belonging to Visionary Records, a subsidiary to Evident Music Group, owned by business partners Tony Calderon, Baby Bash, Ed Ocanas, and Albert Huerta. Using their experience gained through familiarizing the world with Latina songstress Paula DeAnda, Visionary Records and Evident Music Group hopes to add another name to Corpus Christi’s showcase of talent including, Selena, Eva Longoria, Farah Fawcett, Freddy Fender, and Paula DeAnda.
Colorblind knows the path to success is not going to be easy amongst the masses hoping for the same. Relying on pure talent, faith, and the love of their fans to distinguish themselves from the one hit wonders. They will not settle for anything less than a permanent homestead in the world of music.
On tour and on stage, Colorblind has had the chance to share audiences with many of today’s hottest acts in music such as: T-Pain, Chris Brown, Baby Bash, Paula DeAnda, Pitbull, Soulja Boy, The Dream, Play-N-Skillz, Chingy, Colby O’Donis, and hip hop legends Naughty By Nature. Fresh off of the MTV TR3S Sucker Free Latino Tour 2008, gave Colorblind the chance to gain fans one show at a time, while having the opportunity to open up for Baby Bash and Pitbull in a nationwide 16+ city month long tour. In late April, 2008, Colorblind dropped their single, “The Break Up Song†which quickly began to dominate radio stations, across the nation. Gaining airplay daily, Colorblind currently holds spots not just on the Rhythimic charts, but on Top 40 charts as well. Almost hitting the 50,000 mark, Colorblind’s video for “The Break Up Song†is collecting its plays across the airwaves of YouTube and Myspace Tv. Featuring cameos by Baby Bash, Paula DeAnda, and latin artist Dj Kane, Colorblind’s debut video is now in rotation on MTV TR3S giving it the chance to make the landmark show TRL.
Colorblind has the desire to change the world in a positive way, one verse, one concert, and one fan at a time. The Colorblind movement is neither unstoppable, nor irreplaceable. Currently Colorblind is putting the final touches on their highly anticipated debut album to hit stores Fall 2008.
