Downright is an alternative/mellow-but-heavy hard rock band from Southern California. Formed in 1996 and originally under the name "Orange Bang", Downright began playing clubs around Orange County, California. The threat of a lawsuit by the soft drink company of the same name broke the band up in 1998. In early 2000 the band reunited, complete with new tunes, new experiences and a new name: Downright. With their first full length CD, “Over The Lineâ€, Downright sought to expand their fan base by cranking out tunes that are sonically moody yet powerful and promised to deliver the goods during their live performances. With their latest release, 2003’s “Weapons of Mass Distraction†E.P., they continue their sonic trip towards their melodic rock haven and are determined to bring every single listener along for the ride with them. Recruiting once again the skills of engineer/producer Bob Moon (Voodoo Glow Skulls, Alien Ant Farm, MxPx), they set out to crank out solid jams packed with “chunk-chunk†riffs, dynamic changes and soaring vocals, without compromising the raw sound that is unique to Downright. Their varied musical influences are again displayed on these five songs, giving each piece its own flavor and individuality yet keeping the album and the band’s musical integrity intact. Downright seems more determined than ever not to be tied and bound to a specific genre of music. They’re letting their instruments take them wherever they may, letting rock be rock and making sure you are having a good time. They have been featured in radio stations around the world, such as 106.7 KROQ (Zeke’s Backyard), U.K.’s Total Rock (Totalrock.com), KNAC.com, 94.3FM Cool Radio and X103.9FM Worldwide (x1039.com). Through endless self-promotion and countless shows all around Orange (Galaxy Theatre, The Coach House, Chain Reaction, Linda’s Doll Hut, Gypsy Lounge, The Tiki Bar, Hogue Barmichaels), Los Angeles (The Gig, Coconut Teaszer) and Riverside counties (Crossroads, Pepito’s, Jack’s Bar & Grill, Angel's), they have set out to turn people from mere listeners to rabid fans – one fan at a time.Downright has been (and continues to be) influenced by the following (in no particular order):
Metallica, Weezer, Deftones, Black Sabbath, The Police, Alice in Chains, Radiohead, Refused, Cake, Rage Against the Machine, amongst others.
Downright blends hard, heavy rhythms with melody and thought-provoking lyrics, thus creating a sound that's aggressive, innovative and soothing to your musical thirst.
