Myspace Backgrounds Brynn Albanese made her solo debut at the age of 10 with the Carson Symphony Orchestra in Los Angeles, California. Growing up in Los Angeles within a family of professional musicians, she was exposed to music from infancy. Her mother is a cellist, father a clarinetist and her grandfather a concert pianist; the most prominent musician in the family is the famed opera Prima Donna, Licia Albanese. She studied from the age of 4 until 17 with Elizabeth Ivanoff Holborn. During this period Ms. Albanese was the recipient of many first place awards. Some of them include the 6-year consecutive winner of the California Bach Festival, VOCE regional and state competitions and the Etude competition. She has served as Concertmaster of the California State Honors Orchestra and Principal Second of the National Honors Orchestra under James DuPriest. She spent her teenage years and early twenties performing and studying at summer festivals such as Interlochen National Music Camp, Ivan Galamians’ Meadowmount School, Blossom Festival, Tanglewood Music Festival and various European venues as well.Ms. Albanese graduated from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore Maryland with the highest honors, both scholastically and musically. She served as Concertmaster of the Peabody Orchestra for 4 years including a tour in 1987 to the former U.S.S.R. She was a featured soloist with cellist Carter Brey performing “Don Quixote.” Upon graduation, she was the recipient of the Van Hulstein Award for The Most Valuable Musician of the Orchestra. While in Baltimore, Ms. Albanese was also making a name for herself and became a topic of conversation in the cultural community by performing in many restaurants, bookstores and cafes.In her last year of college, she was appointed Concertmaster of the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Giselle Ben-Dor. In the next 3 years with the orchestra, she appeared regularly as soloist including conducting and playing Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons.” Also during this period she played and toured regularly with The Baltimore Symphony under David Zinman, had regular appearances at the Walters Art Gallery and was the Assistant Concertmaster of the Baltimore Opera Company.The summer of 1991 and 1992 found her at the Tanglewood Music Festival, where in 1958 her Mother also performed. Both summers Ms. Albanese was appointed Concertmaster for the first and second Leonard Bernstein Memorial concerts under Seiji Ozawa and Rodger Norrington; she received the Henry Kohn Award for The Most Valuable Member of the Tanglewood Festival. In the fall of 1992 Brynn relocated to Boston where she was appointed Concertmaster of the Boston Philharmonic under Benjamin Zander and also Principal Second of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra under John Williams and Keith Lockhart.She was also an original member of the Metamorphosen Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Scott Yoo. From the fall of 1994 to the fall of 1998 she was a regular full-time extra player with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Seiji Ozawa; she participated in both domestic and international tours as well as all CD recordings. In 1998 she was the soloist with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra at the acclaimed Boston Symphony Hall under Keith Lockhart. Other solo appearances include the Victoria, British Columbia Festival Orchestra, American Youth Symphony under Mehli Mehta, the Peabody Conservatory Orchestra and the Annapolis Symphony.In the fall of 1998, yearning for the experience of working and living abroad, Brynn was accepted as the Assistant Principal Second Violin of the Residentie Orchestra under the direction of Evgenii Svetlanov and Jaap van Zweden; she made her home for the next six and a half years in The Hague, Netherlands. While in The Netherlands, some of the groups that she has performed with were The Concertgebouw Orchestra, Amsterdam Sinfonietta Chamber Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic and several recital and chamber music series. In the winter of 2004 she decided to return to the Untied States and to settle on the Central Coast of California to pursue her own projects outside of a full-time orchestral life. She was a participant in the Mozart Festival of San Luis Obispo led by Director, Scott Yoo and had served as Principal Second violin at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music under the baton of Maestro Marin Alsop for three years. She most recently served as acting Concertmaster for the Monterey Symphony for the 2007-2008 season. On the Central Coast, Brynn is part of the pool faculty at California Polytechnic University as a string teacher and orchestral coach. She appreciates leading an eclectic and ever-changing musical and cultural life that brings her an enduring richness of being. Their penchant for for bringing elements of classical and ethnic folk music together under one musical roof is what keeps audiences coming back for more. Their album “The Dancer” released in 2008 has sold over 1200 copies. Soon they will take their show on the road into surrounding counties. Brynn is currently private teaching and is enjoying building a reputation as a teacher in the area. She also is playing recitals and travels around the globe for whatever new and exciting projects come her way.
