Domenico Lobuono is a jazz guitarist based in Trieste (Italy).
In 1976 he began the accademic study of classic guitar and, some years later, of piano. In Eighties he looked at many different directions: classical music, the world of popular and folk music, mainly the celtic and the latinoamerican ones, that particular artistic world between progressive rock and ambient music represented by artists like Brian Eno, Robert Fripp, David Byrne and Andy Summers. His interest for jazz music begane in 1985 after having heard a Michel Petrucciani album.
He begane then an intensive study, under the teaching of Fernando d'Anelli , teacher in Li.A.M.M. (Libera Accademia di Musica Moderna), of the great classics of jazz with a particular sight at pianists, particularly Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett and Michel Petrucciani, and guitarists; between them Joe Pass, Jim Hall, Kenny Burrell, Pat Martino and of course Wes Montgomery represent his main inspiration.
In the early 90's he approached the world of soul-jazz through the music of Horace Silver and Grant Green and, some years later, he created with the bassist Mario Cogno the soul-jazz oriented band “KIND OF GROOVEâ€, inspired by Grant Green productions of 70ies.
In December 2003, in order to promote the spread of jazz guitar, he created the first italian Usenet Newsgroup about jazz guitar, it-alt.arti.musica.strumenti.chitarra-jazz, which became shortly a kind of an online group of study with gatherings in many parts of Italy.
In 2007 he begane a colaboration with the pianist Roberto Magris creating a sophisticated drumless trio and at the same time a groove jazz project called "GROOVIN' 4" in which appears Mario Cogno at bass and the drummer Giorgio Codiglia.
In February 2008 he has created a new smooth jazz idea called "SMOOTH PROJECT" with mainly original compositions inspired by the so called L.A. sound. In November 2008 the band has produced the first cd "SATURDAY FLIGHT" distributed by CDBABY
